About the role
Love working with boats and getting stuck into hands on work?
We’re looking for an experienced Shipwright to join our Engineering team in Cairns, helping keep our GBR fleet in top condition and ready for the next adventure.
This is a practical, varied role where no two days are exactly the same. You’ll be working alongside an experienced team, taking pride in quality workmanship and playing a key role in keeping our vessels safe, reliable, well maintained and looking their best.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be hands on across a wide range of vessel maintenance and presentation work, including:
- Fibreglassing and repairs
- Flooring and general vessel fit out
- Cabinetry and joinery
- Glazing and insulation
- General vessel maintenance and presentation
- Planned and preventative maintenance
- Corrective maintenance and repairs
- Identifying and reporting defects and maintenance requirements
- Supporting maintenance across our Port Douglas fleet when required
You’ll also help keep our maintenance program running smoothly, ensuring work is completed safely,
efficiently and to a high standard so our vessels can get back on the water and doing what they do best.
What we’re looking for
You’re an experienced Shipwright who enjoys practical work, takes pride in what you do and knows what it takes to keep a vessel in great shape.
You’ll bring:
- Experience completing planned and preventative maintenance on vessels
- Solid practical skills and attention to detail
- A high standard of workmanship
- A strong commitment to safety
- The ability to identify and respond to maintenance issues and risks
- The ability to work independently while being part of a close working team
- A positive, reliable and can do approach
- The physical capability to work in a hands on marine and workshop environment
Qualifications & Licences
A Certificate in Marine Craft Construction, Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent experience is preferred.
The following are also desirable:
- Construction Induction (White Card)
- Forklift Licence
- LR Vehicle Licence
- Working at Heights
- Confined Space Entry
- First Aid Certificate
