Media Merchants is one of Australia’s leading independent media, performance and creative agencies, and we’re looking for an experienced SEO Director to join our Sydney team.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who can own organic-search strategy and performance across a portfolio of ambitious clients. You’ll lead the SEO team, guide offshore delivery resources, build strong senior client relationships and help evolve our offering across traditional SEO, Local SEO, AEO, GEO, GIO and AI-driven search.

Why You?

You’re an experienced SEO leader who can turn complex search opportunities into clear commercial outcomes.

You have:

• 6+ years’ SEO experience, ideally agency-side
• Robust technical SEO, content SEO and Local SEO capability
• Experience with AEO, GEO, GIO/Entity Optimisation and AI/LLM-driven search
• Proven client leadership and presentation skills
• Experience managing, mentoring or quality-assuring SEO teams
• Strong commercial acumen across scoping, resourcing, reporting and account growth
• Confidence with SEO tools, analytics, dashboards and performance measurement
• A proactive, data-led approach and genuine interest in the future of search

The Role
As SEO Director,



you’ll be responsible for:
• Leading SEO strategy and performance across client accounts
• Developing roadmaps across technical SEO, content, authority, Local SEO and AI search
• Leading senior client conversations, strategy presentations and performance reporting
• Building reporting and dashboard frameworks that demonstrate value and ROI
• Guiding onshore and offshore SEO teams to deliver high-quality, scalable work
• Improving SEO processes, QA standards, automation and AI-enabled workflows
• Identifying client-growth opportunities and supporting pitches and proposals
• Helping shape a future-focused SEO offering within a growing independent agency
