eSafety is Australia's online safety regulator, working to protect Australians from online harms and build a safer digital workplace. Sitting under an independent Commissioner supported by the ACMA, eSafety partners with government, industry and international organisations to tackle issues ranging from cyberbullying to emerging AI-driven risks.
This role sits within eSafety's International Engagement team, which builds relationships with overseas regulators to promote safer online practices across borders - including through the Southeast Asia and Pacific Cyber Program (SEAPAC Cyber), running 2026-2029.
About the Role
As Project Officer, you'll support delivery of eSafety's Online Safety in Southeast Asia and the Pacific project, working closely with the Assistant Manager - International Engagement. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting desktop research to map the online safety landscape across priority countries (Fiji, Indonesia, the Philippines, Samoa, Tonga and Viet Nam)
- Developing monitoring, evaluation and learning tools and tracking project deliverables
- Supporting consultation and capacity-building workshops, including logistics and materials
- Preparing briefing papers, agendas and talking points for stakeholder meetings
- Co-designing culturally appropriate online safety resources with international partners
This is a part-time (0.6 FTE), 12-month contract role, based in Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra, with options for renewal and some international travel.
Key Duties
- Conduct desktop research and develop a baseline study mapping the online safety landscape across Fiji, Indonesia, the Philippines, Samoa, Tonga and Viet Nam
- Develop a monitoring, evaluation and learning plan and supporting tools for the project
- Track project activities and deliverables, record risk treatments and changes, and draft progress reports
- Coordinate consultation and capacity-building workshops, including venue, catering and materials
- Prepare agendas, talking points and briefing materials for meetings and events
- Co-design and contextualise online safety resources with international stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support project delivery
Key Skills and Capabilities
- Strong project management and organisational skills, including monitoring, evaluation and learning experience, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise information and translate findings into practical recommendations
- Experience working with diverse communities to co-design accessible, culturally appropriate resources and workshops
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative, adaptable,
and able to use initiative in a fast-paced environment
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. international development, international relations, social sciences) or equivalent relevant experience
Highly regarded:
- Cultural competency and experience engaging with stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific region
- Knowledge or experience in online safety issues, including technology-facilitated violence against women and children
- Current Working with Children Check
- Understanding of Commonwealth policies and procedures
APS6 hourly rate contract, 12-months + possible extension
Located in Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne | 3 Days Per Week
Ability to obtain Baseline Clearance
