About the Opportunity

- Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time, 3 days per week
- Roster: Wednesday and Friday plus one additional weekday by agreement, 8am to 4pm
- Pay: SCHADS Level 2 starting from $36.22 to $39.53 base per hour + generous Salary packaging up to $18,550 (pay less tax) + Super
- Location: Tuggerah, NSW

Join Uniting’s Family and Carer Mental Health Program, providing individual support, education, training and support groups to people caring for a loved one experiencing mental health challenges. Help carers build confidence, resilience and coping skills while connecting them with services and supportive community networks.

Role Overview

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you’ll provide individual support, advocacy, education and training to families and carers. You’ll also facilitate carer support groups and develop individual support plans that help carers achieve their goals.

Working within a recovery-oriented and person-centred approach, you’ll support carers to build resilience, strengthen coping skills and develop the confidence to support their loved ones.

- Provide one-to-one emotional support to carers, helping them develop coping strategies, manage stress and navigate services.
- Facilitate carer support groups, creating a safe and welcoming space where carers can connect and share experiences.
- Deliver education and training on mental health conditions, symptoms, communication skills and practical strategies for supporting a loved one.
- Manage referrals and an allocated caseload, working autonomously to provide tailored support.
- Promote the program across the community by building relationships with local services, attending community events and representing Uniting at information stalls.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

- A minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or Community Services or equivalent qualification.
- Students currently studying Social Work,



Psychology or Counselling will also be considered.
- Understanding of experiences, needs and challenges of carers of people with mental illness
- Ability to facilitate support groups for families and carers.
- Understanding and application of the principles of Recovery Oriented Practice.
- Demonstrated ability to develop individual support plans with carers, with a focus on supporting the carer to reach their goals.
- Ability to work independently as well as cohesively within a team.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- A current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence.
- A paid NSW Working with Children Check

Desirable Criteria:

- Mental Health First Aid certificate or equivalent
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Experience providing individual advocacy for families and carers of people with a mental illness
- Completion of ASIST training and/or suicide prevention
- Experience with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
- Advanced knowledge of local community service networks.
