Mental Health Occupational Therapist
Geelong, Belmont, VIC | Full-time or Part-time
Are you passionate about mental health and see the value that mental health OT can play in the lives of others?
• Would you like an opportunity to specialise in mental health and neuro-affirming OT?
• Perhaps you are an experienced mental health clinician looking for a change and the opportunity to further develop skills in your niche area of practice. This may include extending your knowledge in DBT, CBT, IFS, Schema Therapy and ACT.
• You value self-care and work/life balance and are looking for an opportunity to create the right work/life blend for you.
About the role
We’re looking for a skilled and values-aligned OT with experience and an interest in mental health to join our growing mental health OT and psychology team in Belmont, Geelong.
This role is ideal for an OT who enjoys working holistically and collaboratively. You’ll support young people and adults experiencing trauma and complex mental health challenges. Many of the people you support will be neurodivergent, as we are known for our inclusive practice in this space.
The role includes working with NDIS, TAC and private clients, and involves assessment and intervention across a range of presentations.
Once mental health endorsed, you’ll have the option of supporting GP-referred clients under a Mental Health Care Plan, delivering therapies aligned with your interests – from EMDR to ACT, IFS and CBT.
This role might be perfect for you if the following rings true
• You’ve worked in mental health or psychosocial disability and want to deepen your therapy focus and refine your skills with generous PD support and supervision.
• The role would be a excellent fit if you share our drive to deliver the best possible service for clients: evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive and inclusive.
• You like autonomy and flexibility in your work, but value reliable and generous support.
• You are passionate about supporting neurodivergent clients and people who have experienced trauma, and have a drive to see people learn to embrace their unique traits, develop a sense of safety, and build confidence.
• You love to learn! You’ll have a generous PD allowance, as well as access to in-house training and clinical reviews. We have an open-door policy for supervision; supervision is available any time it is needed. We also engage subject matter experts when required.
• The role is a great fit if you are a kind person and listen well. The overwhelming feedback at our last team day was that the team feels safe – safe to learn, safe to talk, and safe to be ourselves.
• You are comfortable with complexity and up for a challenge. We are often referred clients who are in complex situations because referrers trust our service. We find that, with mutual support within our team, it is much easier to sit with complexity. You are definitely not alone in this role!
This is a chance to
• Build on your clinical niche and areas of interest in a safe, neuro-affirming and trauma-informed setting.
• Receive support and training to specialise or obtain your mental health endorsement.
• Create work/life balance while continuing to grow as a clinician.
We provide
• A flexible and family-friendly role. You can work around school hours or other life commitments, and we can work with you to help create the right work/life blend.
• Access to our wellbeing program, where we get to chat, reflect and engage in self-care.
Our morning teas are amazing.
• A beautiful workplace with all the tools you need, including a laptop, phone and resources.
• A travel allowance, generous PD allowance and leave entitlements.
• Supervision as needed. We’re not just saying this – we are big believers that healthy staff do the best work, so we will support you. In-house PD and clinical reviews are also offered.
• Participation in our supported pathway to Mental Health Endorsement, if you are not already endorsed.
• A relocation allowance for the right candidate.
What you need
• Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
• Current AHPRA registration
• Membership with OTA
• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current First Aid and CPR certificate
• Australian working rights
• Appropriate professional insurance
• Car and driver’s licence
• Experience working in mental health or psychosocial disability
