Lead Practice Nurse / Senior Registered Nurse – General Practice

$45–$50 per hour + super, based on experience

Lutwyche Family Practice is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to lead and develop our nursing function while remaining actively involved in patient care.

This is a genuine hands-on clinical leadership position. You will not be removed from patients or confined to administrative management. You will work closely with our Practice Manager and two principal GPs to support our nursing team, coordinate the treatment room and strengthen the systems that underpin safe, effective patient care.

About us

Lutwyche Family Practice is an established, accredited, mixed-billing general practice caring for families across Brisbane’s inner north.

We are proudly independent and doctor-owned. Decisions are made within the practice, and you will have direct access to our approachable principal GPs and Practice Manager.

Our team includes approximately eight part-time GPs, visiting specialists, allied health providers, nurses and an experienced reception team, with pathology located onsite.

About the role

As Lead Practice Nurse, you will provide day-to-day clinical leadership and help create a consistent, well-supported nursing service.

You will:

lead, support and mentor our small nursing team

coordinate daily treatment-room priorities, workflows and patient flow

provide immunisations, wound care,



health assessments and other general practice nursing care

strengthen chronic disease management, recalls, reviews and preventive-health activities

support the development of practical nurse-led services

oversee vaccine management and cold-chain compliance

support infection prevention, medicines safety and emergency readiness

coordinate clinical stock, equipment and treatment-room standards

contribute to accreditation, audits, incident review and quality improvement

help strengthen clinical workflows within Best Practice Premier.

Protected leadership time

We recognise that meaningful improvement work cannot simply be added to an already full clinical workload.

You will have protected time within your ordinary paid hours for nursing leadership, quality improvement, team development and service planning. Priorities will be agreed with the Practice Manager and principal GPs so the role remains realistic and properly supported.

About you

We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse who combines sound clinical judgement with initiative, organisation and a collaborative leadership style.

You will have:

current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse

substantial recent experience in Australian general practice or primary healthcare





strong clinical skills across immunisation, wound care, chronic disease and preventive care

current immunisation qualifications appropriate for practice in Queensland

current CPR/BLS certification

sound knowledge of cold chain, infection prevention, medicines safety and clinical risk

experience supporting, mentoring or leading other nurses

excellent communication, organisation and follow-through

Experience with Best Practice Premier is highly regarded. Formal leadership experience is valuable, but we also welcome an accomplished senior practice nurse who is ready to step into genuine leadership.
