Gallang Place Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation is a not-for-profit First Nations community-based organisation with a proud 30-year history of providing trauma-informed, culturally safe healing services.

We are growing our team in Brisbane and are looking for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Youth Mentors who want to make a genuine difference in the lives of First Nations young people and families.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Staying on Track Youth Justice Program

Working in partnership with Youth Justice, families and community case workers, the program provides practical and personalised support including mentoring and structured therapies to help young people successfully reintegrate into the community and reduce reoffending after leaving detention.

As a Senior Youth Mentor at Gallang Place, you will build robust relationships with Youth Justice partners, ensuring high-quality cultural and therapeutic practice, and support a safe,



consistent and trauma-informed service environment for young people and their families.

This is an identified position to be filled by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons as permitted by and arguable under sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for people who are committed to cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and supporting our people in a way that is respectful and empowering.

You will ideally have:

Minimum Cert IV or Diploma in Counselling, Youth Work, Community Services, Case Management, or similar

Demonstrated experience in social and emotional wellbeing, counselling, youth mentoring, youth support, and/or case management

The ability to build rapport and create safe spaces for clients at risk of re-offending and to respond to critical situations

Strong relationship-building skills, grounded in respect, collaboration, and inclusivity

A willingness to continue professional development and participate in supervision

Experience working in a First Nations community-controlled organisation (advantageous).
