About the role

n

Barwon Health is seeking a Spiritual Care Practitioner to lead the provision of spiritual care across our residential aged care facilities. Reporting to the Director of Psychology within Allied Health the practitioner manages and delivers spiritual care to residents, families, and staff in partnership with the University Hospital Geelong Spiritual Care team.

The practitioner provides and models person-centred spiritual care within the multidisciplinary team; supervises Spiritual Care Practitioners; oversees referral, consent, and documentation processes; develops policy and procedure for the service; and coordinates external faith and spiritual community representatives to meet the diverse needs of residents. The role operates within the scope of spiritual care practice as defined by the Spiritual Care Australia Capabilities Framework, the SCA Code of Conduct, and the National Guidelines for Spiritual Care in Aged Care, and contributes to the facilities' obligations under the Aged Care Quality Standards.

Key responsibilities

n

- Provide leadership in Spiritual Care, contribute to committees and working groups, develop and implement policies and strategies, and drive service improvement.

- Lead and deliver compassionate, culturally protected spiritual and emotional care to patients and families, including support through grief, loss, crisis and end-of-life care,



and facilitate connections with faith/spiritual communities where requested.

- Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, promote inclusive and respectful practice, support supervision and reflective practice, and maintain professional expertise through ongoing learning, research and professional networks.
n
- Ensure compliance with credentialing, professional standards, legislation and Barwon Health requirements; promote risk management, effective documentation and reporting, responsible use of resources, and continuous quality and safety improvement.

What we're looking for

n

- Relevant qualifications in theology, pastoral care, or a related field.
n
- Certification or eligibility for certification with a recognised spiritual care organization.
n
- Experience in providing spiritual care within a healthcare setting.
n
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
n
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
n
- Understanding of and respect for diverse cultural, spiritual, and personal beliefs.
n
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in spiritual care.
n
