About Parks & Recreation

The Parks & Recreation Team are thesecret behind the Toowoomba Region’s beautiful parks and gardens.With over 7000 hectares of public gardens, bushland park,sports and recreation facilities and other open space and anextensive urban forest, the Toowoomba region is well known for itsliveability and green infrastructure. The Parks and RecreationServices Branch is responsible for planning, developing andmaintaining our beautiful green infrastructure, some of which isheritage listed, and keeping up with the strong growth across theregion. The team is a diverse mix of approximately 200 peopleworking as labourers, gardeners, arborists, horticulturalists,plant operators, rangers, cleaners, project managers, landscapearchitects, administrators, regulators and their managers andleaders.

About the position

As a Horticulturist, you will beresponsible for performing skilled gardening work ensuring qualityassurance and best practice standards are maintained in therelevant work area, with a focus on providing excellent stakeholderservice to efficiently deliver the desired levels of service foropen space areas within the Toowoomba Region.

In this position, you will operateunder limited supervision.

What you’ll bring

- Certificate III inHorticulture, or a willingness to obtain within 18 months ofcommencement, with demonstratedexperience.
- Current ‘MR’ Class DriversLicence, or the willingness to obtain within six (6) months ofcommencement.
- WHS Competency (WhiteCard) for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in theconstruction industry, or equivalent, or a willingness toobtain prior to commencement.
- Possession of an ACDC(Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control) Sprayingcertificate, or ability to obtain within six (6) months ofcommencement.
- Level 1 Chainsaw Operationcertificate is desirable.
- Leadership, interpersonal andcommunication skills.
- Technical skills andknowledge.
- Accountability.
