About the Role The Aboriginal Cultural Capability Facilitator plays a key role in strengthening cultural capability, safety and responsiveness across the Health Agency. Working closely with the Aboriginal Cultural Capability Team Leader, the position champions culturally safe and inclusive practices and supports employees at all levels to develop greater awareness, understanding and confidence when working with Aboriginal people, communities, patients and colleagues.

A key focus of the role is the coordination, delivery and continuous improvement of the Respecting the Difference Aboriginal cultural training program, as well as the development and facilitation of bespoke cultural capability initiatives. This includes coordinating training, facilitating engaging learning sessions, evaluating outcomes and preparing reports to demonstrate impact and identify opportunities for improvement.

The position builds strong relationships with Aboriginal communities and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders across NSW Health to develop and implement initiatives that drive meaningful and sustainable cultural change. The role also supports and empowers Aboriginal employees while contributing to strategies that enhance organisational inclusion and cultural safety.

The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of Aboriginal history, culture and contemporary experiences, including the ongoing impacts of colonisation and historical policies on Aboriginal people and their experiences within the health system. They will use this knowledge to influence positive changes in workplace practices and contribute to the delivery of a culturally responsive, respectful and safe health service.

This is an influential and people-focused role that provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by building cultural capability, strengthening relationships with Aboriginal communities and supporting better experiences and outcomes for Aboriginal people accessing and working within the health system.

This is a Full-Time Permanent role based within the Mid North Coast Local Health District,



with offices in Coffs Harbour & Port Macquarie.

About You

You are an experienced and passionate Aboriginal cultural capability professional with demonstrated experience developing and delivering culturally responsive training, workforce development programs and initiatives that support inclusion, cultural safety and positive organisational change. You bring a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, history and the ongoing impacts of systemic barriers, particularly within the health sector, and are committed to creating workplaces and services where Aboriginal people feel respected, safe, valued and empowered.

You have strong experience facilitating training and group discussions, with the confidence to present to diverse audiences and lead conversations on complex and sensitive issues. You are skilled at creating safe and engaging learning environments that encourage reflection, challenge assumptions and support staff to translate cultural capability knowledge into meaningful changes in their everyday practice. Your strong stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills enable you to work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal employees, leaders, clinicians and other key stakeholders.

You understand the importance of being guided by local Aboriginal communities and bringing local knowledge and perspectives into the development and delivery of the Respecting the Difference program and other culturally relevant initiatives.

You are a confident communicator and skilled influencer, with highly developed interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills. You can navigate challenging situations and diverse perspectives with professionalism, empathy and cultural sensitivity, while maintaining a clear focus on achieving positive and sustainable outcomes. You are organised, adaptable and committed to continuous improvement, with the ability to evaluate training outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to strategies that strengthen cultural capability across the organisation.





You are also willing and able to travel across the Health Agency's sites and services, including overnight travel where required, to ensure equitable access to cultural capability training for staff.

Most importantly, you are committed to contributing to meaningful change for Aboriginal people by strengthening cultural safety, improving workforce capability and supporting the delivery of more inclusive, respectful and culturally responsive health services.
