Seeking Aboriginal Sexual Violence Navigation Coordinator for a new program at Yenu Allowah to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal victim survivors aged 16 years and over who have experienced recent or historical sexual assault, assisting them to understand their rights, options, and pathways through the criminal justice system.

The role aims to strengthen Aboriginal communities understanding of sexual violence and the systems which can support response. The role supports engagement with justice processes, and other sexual violence systems support for Aboriginal people who’ve experienced sexual violence.

The role also supports Aboriginal victim survivors receive timely information, practical support, advocacy, and coordinated referrals throughout their justice journey.

The role builds and maintains relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders in Aboriginal community, the justice sector and services responding to trauma.

Working within Yenu Allowah's trusted community-based service model, the SV Navigation coordinator promotes self-determination, informed decision-making, cultural safety, and continuity of care for victim survivors, their families and communities

Embedded within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO), the Case Manager contributes to a service system that is culturally grounded, responsive, and accountable to Aboriginal communities.

Justice System Navigation and Support

- Provide culturally secure, accessible information regarding:

· Victims' rights and entitlements · Reporting options

· Police investigations

· Court and legal processes

· Victims support and compensation schemes

- Other complex legal and procedural matters
- Support victim survivors to make informed decisions before, during, and after engagement with police, courts, and related agencies.
- Assist victim survivors to navigate criminal justice processes and understand what to expect at each stage.




- Provide practical support and advocacy to reduce barriers to engagement with justice services.

Case Coordination and Referral · Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop individualized support plans.

· Facilitate warm referrals and actively support engagement with:

- Health services
- Counselling and therapeutic supports
- Housing and homelessness services
- Legal services
- Police and justice agencies
- Child protection services
- Specialist sexual assault and domestic violence services

· Maintain regular contact with clients to ensure continuity of care and ongoing engagement. · Monitor client progress and adjust support strategies as required.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

· Work collaboratively with specialist services including:

- Sexual Assault Services
- Victims Services
- Legal Aid NSW
- NSW Police Force
- Aboriginal and mainstream support services
- Community organisations and government agencies

· Participate in interagency meetings and case coordination activities. · Strengthen referral pathways and service integration to improve outcomes for Aboriginal victim survivors.

· Contributes to building community awareness of available support and justice pathways.

Cultural Safety and Community Engagement

· Promote cultural safety, respect, and strengths-based practice in all interactions.

· Build trusting relationships with Aboriginal individuals, families, Elders, and communities.

· Support victim survivors to remain connected to cultural, family, and community support where appropriate.

· Uphold principles of self-determination and client choice.





· Maintain awareness of community needs and emerging issues impacting Aboriginal victim survivors.

Administration and Reporting

· Maintain accurate and confidential case notes, records, and data in accordance with organisational and funding requirements.

· Prepare reports and contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement activities.

· Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

· Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

- Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (this is an Aboriginal identified position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 NSW).
- Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of sexual violence, trauma, intergenerational trauma, and the unique experiences of Aboriginal victim survivors.
- Experience working with Aboriginal individuals, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and/or experience supporting people through legal, court, police, or victim support processes.
- Demonstrated ability to provide trauma-informed, culturally safe, client-centred support.
- Strong communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound case management, documentation, and organisational skills.
- Current NSW Driver License.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- National Criminal History Check

Desirable · Qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Counselling, Aboriginal Studies, Justice Studies, Law, or a related field.

· Experience within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs).

· Knowledge of NSW victim support services, Legal Aid, police, and court systems.

· Experience working within domestic, family, and sexual violence service sectors.
