About the Company
Proactive Safety is an established specialist height safety contractor operating in the commercial construction sector. We design, supply and install roof access and fall protection systems for commercial and industrial buildings, working with builders, developers and asset owners across NSW.
About the Role
Our long-serving accounts manager is retiring, and we are seeking an experienced Accounts Manager / Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of the entire day-to-day accounts function.
This is a hands-on, standalone role working directly with the directors, our project team and our external accountant. You will personally manage daily processing while ensuring the accounts are accurate, deadlines are met and management has a clear picture of cash flow and outstanding obligations.
We are looking for someone who has previously managed a complete accounts function independently and can confidently resolve issues and keep things running with minimal supervision.
This is a permanent, full-time position based in our office five days per week. An immediate start is available.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, progress claims, receipt allocations, payment follow-ups and collections.
- Manage accounts payable, including supplier and subcontractor invoices, statement reconciliations and payment runs for approval.
- Process payroll and maintain accurate employee, leave and superannuation records.
- Maintain MYOB records and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and lodge BAS and manage associated reporting deadlines.
- Track and reconcile project retentions and coordinate statutory declarations and supporting claim documentation.
- Ensure project income and costs are recorded and allocated accurately.
- Monitor cash flow, upcoming payments and expected receipts, flagging potential issues to management early.
- Complete month-end reconciliations and prepare financial reports for management.
- Liaise with the external accountant and provide accurate records for year-end requirements.
- Investigate discrepancies, resolve accounts queries and maintain organised financial records.
- Handle associated accounts administration and identify opportunities to improve processes.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience independently managing the complete accounts function of a small or medium-sized business.
- Construction industry experience, including progress claims, retentions and subcontractor payment processes.
- Robust practical MYOB skills and proficiency in Excel.
- Experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, BAS, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Confidence following up overdue payments and resolving queries with customers, suppliers and staff.
- Sound judgement, clear communication and the ability to work independently.
- Experience using a CRM/Project management software would be an advantage
What We Offer
- A permanent, full-time position within an established business.
- Direct access to the directors and support from our external accountant.
- Ownership of the accounts function and the opportunity to improve processes.
- Immediate start available.
To Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience independently managing a complete accounts function, your construction industry experience and your availability to commence.
