Do you have the confidence to manage challenging situations, build positive relationships and make a real difference in the community?

We are looking for Animal Management Officers to join our Community Compliance team and play an important role in promoting responsible pet ownership, community safety and animal welfare.

About the Team:

The City Inspectorate branch is responsible for enforcing the City’s standards and local laws across building, community, public safety and environmental health compliance. Our work helps protect the safety, amenity and quality of life of the City’s residents and visitors.

The Community Compliance business unit delivers a range of animal management initiatives, including proactive patrols and enforcement, animal impounding, off-leash facility management, pet education and complaints management. Our focus is on helping residents understand their responsibilities and ensuring animals are appropriately cared for and managed in accordance with legislation.

About the Role:

Every day is different. You’ll combine practical compliance work with education and engagement to achieve positive outcomes for residents, pet owners and their animals. You’ll have the prospect to work in the field, engage directly with the community, respond to animal-related matters and contribute to initiatives that promote responsible pet ownership.

The role operates across a 7-day roster, with hours ranging between 6:00am and 6:00pm. Animal Management Officers also participate in an on-call roster, responding to call-outs and emergencies when required.

What You’ll Do:

Conduct proactive patrols and respond to a range of animal-related complaints across the City.

Investigate compliance matters and take appropriate, fair and equitable regulatory action, including issuing warnings and infringement notices.

Impound or seize animals that are found wandering at large or pose a threat to public safety.

Educate residents and pet owners about their responsibilities and promote responsible animal ownership.

Participate in community awareness and engagement activities, including school presentations, community events and public consultation sessions.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and community stakeholders to resolve animal management issues and achieve positive outcomes.

What You’ll Bring:

You’ll be a people-focused professional who genuinely cares about the community and is comfortable working with animals. You will bring:

A genuine interest in people and the ability to negotiate positive outcomes in challenging situations.

Confidence and capability in handling animals safely and appropriately.

A strong commitment to providing an excellent customer service experience.

Honesty, integrity and a positive “can do” attitude.

A willingness to learn, develop your skills and continually improve the way we deliver our services.

An openness to feedback, together with the confidence to provide constructive ideas for improving processes and service delivery.

The maturity, resilience and communication skills to manage conflict calmly, respectfully and professionally.

A Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or equivalent knowledge and experience.

An unrestricted Class C driver's licence.

A willingness and ability to work across a 7-day roster and participate in the on-call roster.
