Your new role

As an APS6/EL1 External Budget Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the agency through major budget milestones, including Budget, Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) and Estimates processes.

Key responsibilities include

- Developing and maintaining budget estimates, forecasts and financial models
- Managing agency reporting through the Central Budget Management System (CBMS)
- Supporting the preparation of Portfolio Budget Statements and Additional Estimates documentation
- Assisting with New Policy Proposals, Cabinet costings and funding submissions
- Preparing briefings, executive reporting and Senate Estimates material
- Providing strategic budget advice to business areas and senior stakeholders
- Liaising with central agencies and internal stakeholders on budget matters
- Analysing financial information to identify risks, trends and funding impacts
- Contributing to continuous improvement of budgeting and reporting processes

What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this APS6 External Budget Officer role,



you will demonstrate:

- Must be an Australian citizen with a Baseline security clearance
- Experience working within an APS external budget, budgeting or financial management environment
- Strong understanding of Commonwealth Budget processes and government financial frameworks
- Experience using CBMS or similar government budgeting systems
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability
- Excellent written communication and briefing skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- The ability to build effective stakeholder relationships across a range of business areas
