Lead Operations Across Newcastle’s Favourite Community Pools!
At BlueFit, we believe local recreation and aquatic facilities are the heart of a vibrant community. We are excited to manage operations across the Newcastle community pools— Lambton, Mayfield, and Wallsend—and we’re looking for proactive, safety-focused Casual Duty Managers to join our operational team!
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love leading teams on the concourse, and are passionate about delivering secure, high-quality leisure experiences for the Newcastle community, this is your opportunity to step up.
What the Role is Really About
As a Casual Duty Manager, you will oversee the daily operations, pool safety, and customer service standards across our shifts. Working on the floor, you'll lead our casual lifeguards and front-of-house staff,
maintain pool water quality, and ensure every visitor has a safe and enjoyable experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Supervision: Lead daily shift operations, ensuring smooth pool deck transitions between lap swimming, squad sessions, school carnivals, and public recreation.
- Team Guidance: Mentor, support, and supervise lifeguards during shifts to maintain high safety and operational standards.
- Aquatic Plant & Water Quality: Perform routine pool testing, monitor bather loads, manage backwashes, and ensure plant room procedures are strictly followed.
- Safety & Emergency Response: Act as chief warden and first responder during incidents, upholding GSPO guidelines, WHS standards, and facility emergency plans.
- Facility Care & Presentation: Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming pool concourses, amenities, and front-of-house areas.
- Child Safety: Enforce active supervision programs (Watch Around Water) and uphold strict child protection protocols across all venues.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Aquatic & Leadership Experience: Previous experience as a Duty Manager, Lead Lifeguard, or supervisor within an aquatic or leisure facility.
- Active Leadership Style: Approachable, visible, and hands-on—you prefer leading from the pool deck rather than behind an office door.
- Problem-Solving & Calm Under Pressure: Confident in managing emergency responses, handling patron feedback, and keeping shift operations running smoothly.
- Essential Qualifications (or willing to obtain before starting):
- Current Pool Lifeguard Award (Royal Life Saving or equivalent)
- Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid & HLTAID009 Provide CPR
- Current NSW Working with Children Check (Employee)
- NSW Pool Operations Certificate (highly regarded)
Why Join the BlueFit Team in Newcastle? Flexibility: Great casual roster options across early mornings, daytimes, evenings, and weekends across our Newcastle sites.
Career Advancement: Access clear development pathways within BlueFit’s national network of 60+ facilities.
Awesome Perks: Enjoy facility access to BlueFit health clubs and aquatic centers for you, plus discounts on programs for your immediate family!
