Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a motivated and detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join our Corporate Services team in Katherine.

This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the financial sustainability and effective operation of an organisation delivering essential health services to Aboriginal communities across the Big Rivers region.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and broader Corporate Services team, you will provide high-quality accounting, financial reporting and administrative support while helping maintain accurate financial records and strong financial processes.

About the role

As Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for a range of financial functions, including:

- Managing accounts receivable, invoicing, collections and reconciliations.

- Processing and verifying accounts payable invoices and payments.

- Completing daily bank and monthly credit card reconciliations.

- Assisting with payroll processing in accordance with relevant awards and enterprise agreements.

- Preparing journal entries and maintaining accurate general ledger records.

- Completing monthly general ledger reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.

- Maintaining the fixed assets register, including capital work-in-progress, disposals and depreciation.

- Assisting with BAS, statutory compliance and financial acquittals.

- Supporting the preparation of financial reports, budgets and audit requirements.

- Assisting with grant and funding compliance reporting.

- Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, processes and operational efficiency.

- Providing accounting advice, training and support to employees as required.

About you





We are looking for someone who is organised, methodical and highly attentive to detail, with the ability to work effectively in a busy environment and manage competing priorities.

You will ideally have

- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.

- Progress toward CPA Australia or Chartered Accountant membership.

- Experience working in finance within an Aboriginal Corporation or comparable organisation.

- Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, financial practices and procedures.

- Practical experience using Xero or MYOB.

- Advanced Excel and strong computer/database skills.

- Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.

- Robust written and verbal communication skills.

- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- A high level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

- Current OCHRE clearance, or ability to obtain.
