Details: Are you a strategic communicator who is passionate about making a difference in the community? Join the Strategic Communications team and help shape how health programs, policies and services are communicated and delivered across Canberra.

The Strategic Communications team provides expert communications, campaigns and community engagement advice that places the community at the heart of decision-making. Working within the Whole of Government Communications and Engagement Framework, the team develops and delivers evidence-based communication and engagement strategies that improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Canberrans.

As Assistant Director, Communications and Engagement, you will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of integrated communications, campaigns and engagement initiatives that support government and organisational priorities. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders, subject matter experts, multidisciplinary teams and Ministerial offices to deliver high-quality projects that raise awareness, inspire action and drive positive behavioural and perception change.

This role requires a robust audience-first mindset, using research, insights and evaluation to ensure the right information reaches the right audience at the right time.



You will provide strategic advice, build effective partnerships, and maintain a strong client service focus while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

You will contribute to continuous improvement through the use of data, feedback and research, while ensuring activities align with whole-of-government policies, procedures and communications plans. The role also provides communications and online services support to the Public Information Coordination Centre during Territory emergencies and may include the supervision of staff.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Relevant tertiary education qualifications such as in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies and/or Public Relations is highly desirable.

This is a temporary position available immediately until 4 March 2027 with the possibility of extension (not exceeding 12 months) and/or permanency. A merit pool or merit list will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
