Whatalec Pty Ltd is an established and growing electrical and communications contractor with offices in Brisbane and Townsville. We provide electrical and communications services across commercial projects, service and maintenance, working with a range of major commercial, government and facility-management clients.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Data Technician to join our Brisbane team.

This is a permanent, full-time position for someone who takes pride in their work, can operate professionally on commercial sites and enjoys being part of a good team.

About the Role

You will be working across a variety of commercial communications projects throughout Brisbane and surrounding areas.

Your work will include

- Installation, termination and testing of structured communications cabling
- Installation of copper and fibre communications systems
- Data rack installation, fit-out and patching
- Testing, fault finding and rectification
- Conducting site audits and inspections
- Reading plans, drawings and project documentation
- Accurately recording test results and completed works
- Liaising directly with clients, supervisors and project managers
- Completing required job documentation and paperwork
- Working independently when required while also contributing to the wider project team
- Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and site safety

What We're Looking For

The successful applicant will ideally have:
- Australian Communications Registration with the appropriate endorsements




- Demonstrated experience in commercial communications and data installations
- Experience with structured cabling systems
- Valuable fault-finding and testing skills
- Construction Industry White Card
- Current Australian driver's licence
- Sound knowledge of applicable communications standards and regulations
- Ability to read plans and understand project requirements
- Strong time-management and organisational skills
- Good communication and customer-service skills
- A professional and presentable approach when dealing with clients
- Good record keeping and the ability to keep job documentation up to date
- A strong attitude towards workplace health and safety
- The ability to work unsupervised once given clear direction
