Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) is the national body for wildlife health, and was established in 2002. Our purpose is to advance wildlife health for a healthier future for all. We bring together experts, governments and communities to understand and respond to wildlife health issues—building resilient systems, sharing knowledge, and embedding a One Health approach.
About the role:
In this role, you will support the delivery of WHA's communications and marketing strategy while serving as a key link between operational teams and the Communications & Marketing function. You will be responsible for coordinating content, supporting digital and media activities, and building strong stakeholder relationships to identify and promote the work, achievements and impact of the organisation. This position offers the chance to work in a collaborative scientific environment where effective communication plays a vital role in advancing organisational objectives.
What you’ll do:
- Support the delivery of WHA’s communications, marketing and engagement activities.
- Partner with team members to identify and promote stories, projects and achievements.
- Support the creation and management of content across digital, social media, website and marketing channels.
- Assist with media relations, publications, newsletters and organisational communications.
- Support events, partnerships and campaigns that enhance WHA’s profile and impact.
- Provide coordination and administrative support to the Communications and Marketing function and keep across operational progress to help recognise important impact moments.
An ideal candidate will possess the following, specific to the Communications and Marketing Assistant role. We appreciate it can be challenging to strictly meet all selection criteria and encourage candidates who predominantly do, to consider applying.
Person Specification
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong editing skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience in storytelling, content creation and translating complex information into engaging content, in written and digital formats.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues and external partners.
- Ability to learn scientific terms and operate in a scientific environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Comfortable working with CMS platforms and email marketing tools, plus reporting.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms such as Instagram, BlueSky, Facebook and evolving social media trends.
- Experience using basic content creation tools, such as Canva, Hootsuite, video editing software.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative in a team environment.
- Ability to work autonomously.

- This is an Australian based role, and applicants need to have the right to live and work in Australia as per the Fair Work Act 2009.
Qualifications & Licences A degree (or currently working towards a degree) in Communications, Journalism, Media or a similar discipline.
Salary for this position is $67,000 - $72,254 per annum plus superannuation.
