Role Description:

The Compute Specialist will work on a contract basis, supporting the delivery of secure, resilient and integrated ICT infrastructure for a Commonwealth client at HMAS Harman, Canberra ACT 2600. This is a Backfill Position at ITOP Level 3, engaged with ASJ Tech, running until June 2027 with an extension option, and requiring NV1 minimum security clearance. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning, designing, building and integrating secure Microsoft Windows server environments across on-premises and virtualised (VMware and Hyper-V) platforms, implementing Active Directory integration and Group Policy, and automating configuration, patching and compliance baselines.





The specialist will collaborate with architects, security teams and project managers to maintain security posture, participate in technical assurance gates, and provide Level 3 support for incident, problem and change management (ITIL). The role also involves producing LLDs, installation and configuration guides and test artefacts, performing root-cause analysis and proactive maintenance, and driving continuous improvement through service reviews and reporting against KPIs/SLAs.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor degree in IT, or demonstrated equivalent experience building and administering physical and virtual machines (servers).
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Robust skills in designing and hardening Windows server solutions, Active Directory and Group Policy, across on-premises and virtualised (VMware/Hyper-V) environments.
- Understanding of security, compliance and audit requirements for Defence, Federal Government, or similarly regulated environments, including Australian Government ISM and ASD Essential Eight.
- ITIL Foundation certification highly regarded, with experience providing Level 3 support for incident, problem and change management.
- Ability to work effectively on-site at HMAS Harman, Canberra, within a secure, cleared environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with architects, security teams and project managers, and document configurations clearly (LLDs, installation/configuration guides, test artefacts).
- Capacity to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing project demands.
- NV1 minimum security clearance required; existing clearance highly beneficial.
