Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Community Engagement Officer to support the delivery of an important Cultural Repatriation, Governance and Mapping Project across Eastern Kuku Yalanji communities.

This is an opportunity to work alongside Traditional Owners, Elders, community members, anthropologists and Jabalbina staff to help document, protect and strengthen access to cultural and genealogical knowledge for future generations.

About the role

Working closely with Management, you will provide practical community engagement, project administration and information management support.

You will help organise community consultations and workshops, coordinate travel and logistics, maintain project records, support genealogical and cultural databases, and assist with the development of systems that will remain within Jabalbina beyond the life of the project.

Importantly, this role is also about building Jabalbina's internal capability – ensuring knowledge, systems and skills are retained within the organisation and can continue to support Eastern Kuku Yalanji communities into the future.

What you'll be doing

- Build respectful relationships with Traditional Owners, Elders, families and community members.
- Help plan and coordinate community meetings, workshops and consultation activities.
- Support culturally appropriate consultation and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes.
- Coordinate travel, accommodation, venues, invitations and event logistics.
- Maintain accurate project records, registers, minutes, correspondence and action lists.
- Support the implementation and ongoing management of genealogical and cultural databases.




- Assist with digitising and archiving historical records and information.
- Assist with project reports, newsletters, community updates and other communications.
- Help develop procedures and user guides that strengthen Jabalbina's long-term governance and information management capability.

About you We're looking for someone who is organised, community-minded and culturally respectful, with the ability to build strong relationships while keeping projects and administration on track.

You will ideally have

- Experience working with Aboriginal communities, Traditional Owners or Aboriginal organisations.
- Experience coordinating meetings, workshops or community events.
- Solid administration, organisation and record-keeping skills.
- Experience working with databases and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A strong understanding of confidentiality and culturally sensitive information.
- A current driver's licence and the ability to travel regularly to remote communities.

A Certificate IV or Diploma in Community Services, Business Administration, Indigenous Governance, Cultural Heritage or a related field is desirable, although relevant experience will be considered. Why join Jabalbina?
