At Vinnies Women’s Crisis Centre, we provide 24/7 emergency accommodation, safety and refuge for women experiencing domestic and family violence and homelessness, including women with children and pets.

We are looking for compassionate, resilient and capable Community Services Workers to join our newly established active night team.

Working overnight, you will play an important role in creating a safe, calm and welcoming setting for women staying at the Centre. You will provide practical and frontline crisis support, respond to emerging situations, support new arrivals and help ensure the Centre operates safely and effectively throughout the night.

This is a role where your ability to remain calm, use sound judgement and treat every person with dignity can make a genuine difference.

About the Role

As a Community Services Worker – Night Shift, you will:

- Provide frontline support to guests experiencing crisis, using de-escalation, conflict resolution, practical support and wellbeing strategies.

- Create a safe, respectful and guest-centred environment that recognises individual needs and circumstances.

- Respond appropriately to changing or escalating situations, including liaising with emergency services such as SAPOL, SA Ambulance and Mental Health Triage when required.

- Support the safe arrival and check-in of new guests overnight.

- Monitor site safety and security, including CCTV and established check-in/check-out procedures.

- Respond to hazards, incidents, maintenance and facility-related matters promptly.

- Maintain accurate records, case notes, incident reports, statistical information and shift handovers.

- Liaise with Vinnies services, case managers, referral agencies and other external support services.

- Work within Centre policies, procedures, legislative requirements and professional boundaries.

- Contribute to the smooth and safe operation of the Centre during overnight hours.

What We’re Looking For





You will be a calm, compassionate and practical person who can build rapport with people experiencing significant disadvantage while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

You will bring

- A minimum Certificate III in Community Services or equivalent.

- Experience supporting people experiencing social disadvantage, domestic and family violence, homelessness or other complex circumstances.

- Experience in community services, crisis services, emergency accommodation, social work, aged care or a similar environment.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to respond respectfully and confidently in challenging situations.

- Sound knowledge of de-escalation, crisis response and working within established safety and escalation procedures.

- Strong administration skills and intermediate computer skills.

- The ability to maintain accurate, objective and timely records.

- The resilience and emotional maturity to work independently overnight and respond effectively to unexpected situations.

- A commitment to trauma-informed, respectful and non-judgemental practice.

Important Requirements

- Permanent part-time night shift: 10:50pm – 7:00am
- A current Working with Children Check, First Aid and Fire Warden certificate are required, or you must be willing to obtain them.

- Comfortable and confident working around domestic animals, including dogs and cats.

- Employment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks and requirements, including a National Police Check and employment health assessment.
