Job Summary
Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is seeking a Cultural Heritage Advisor (CVA) to join our Cultural Values Assessment team and support the identification, assessment and protection of Wadawurrung cultural values across Country.
Working collaboratively with Traditional Owners, Members and the broader Cultural Heritage team, this role will contribute to Cultural Values Assessments and Cultural Heritage projects, ensuring Wadawurrung knowledge, values and connection to Country are appropriately understood, documented and considered.
This is a meaningful opportunity to combine Cultural Heritage expertise with on-Country work, stakeholder engagement and collaboration with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of Cultural Values Assessments across Wadawurrung Country.
- Work closely with Traditional Owners and Members to identify, understand and document cultural values, knowledge and connections to Country.
- Undertake research, fieldwork, consultation and reporting to support Cultural Values Assessment projects.
- Provide Cultural Heritage advice and contribute to the delivery of broader Cultural Heritage projects and programs.
- Engage and build positive working relationships with clients, consultants, government agencies and other stakeholders.
- Prepare transparent and accurate Cultural Values Assessment documentation, reports and project records.
- Support culturally appropriate engagement and ensure Wadawurrung perspectives and values are represented throughout project delivery.
- Work collaboratively across the Cultural Values and broader Cultural Heritage teams to achieve strong outcomes for Wadawurrung People and Country.
About You
- You will be a collaborative and respectful professional with an interest in Cultural Heritage and protecting cultural values. You will bring:
- Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in Cultural Heritage, archaeology, anthropology, heritage management or a related field.
- Experience contributing to Cultural Heritage assessments, projects, research or fieldwork.
- Strong written communication, research and report-writing skills.
- The ability to build respectful relationships and communicate effectively with Traditional Owners, community members and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- An understanding of Cultural Heritage legislation and practice in Victoria.
- A genuine appreciation and respect for Aboriginal people, cultures, knowledge and self-determination.
- The ability to work collaboratively while also managing responsibilities independently.
