About the Role The work is exciting, quick-paced, and highly varied. As an Embedded Engineer, you’ll contribute your skills across both Electronics and Firmware Domains, becoming a valued member of multidisciplinary project teams made up of internal colleagues, client teams, and specialist development partners. You’ll support and advise both inside and outside of Exa, helping guide embedded projects from concept through to production.
In a typical week, you might be contributing to proposal generation or project/systems planning, designing and testing electronic hardware (both prototypes and products heading into mass manufacture), or architecting, writing, and verifying embedded software and firmware. You’ll collaborate with colleagues through technical reviews and mentorship, and consult with clients (from start-ups to multinationals) on design, performance, EMC, manufacturing, and system-level decisions.
You will have direct engagement with clients, exposure to full product lifecycle development, and close collaboration across-disciplines, giving you the tools, visibility, and input you need to get the job done. To be Successful in this Role You Will
- Value communication and collaboration with diverse internal and external teams
- ~5+ years of combined professional experience developing electronics & firmware
- Have experience working with STM32 and/or Nordic devices
- Be comfortable programming in C OR C++ AND Python
- Have a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
The Following Skills are Favourable
- Have had exposure to requirements capture and management, development to standards, and testing and verification including EMC
- Skilled in Embedded Linux (Yocto, Buildroot)
- Have had some experience with software architecture and design
- Experience developing software for IoT devices
- Experience working directly with clients, and across hybrid project teams

Where You’ll Be
- A mix of work at home and at Exa's Abbotsford office and lab
- 40-hour workweek with standard hours of 09.00 - 17.30; flexible options e.g. 08:00 - 16:30
- Some travel in Australia as projects require; rare overseas travel as projects require
- Relocation support to Melbourne considered (from within Australia or New Zealand)
