About the role

Our School is seeking an EAL/D Teacher to work within the Intensive English Language and ELICOS programs, with Reception to Year 10 students. The role involves working alongside classroom teachers as well as teaching dedicated EAL/D classes, assessing students against the ACARA English as an Additional Language or Dialect Learning Progressions, and co-developing English learning goals and support structures for individual students. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and capable classroom teacher who brings energy and high expectations to the delivery of EAL/D interventions across all year levels.

Working closely with the EAL/D Specialist and Leader of Diverse Needs, the teacher will deliver well-planned, engaging lessons that reflect the School's commitment to student growth, active learning, creativity and individual wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

- Teach EAL/D classes and provide in-class support across Reception to Year 10, using strategies responsive to students' language backgrounds and learning needs.
- Assess, document, and report on student progress using the ACARA English as an Additional Language or Dialect Learning Progressions.
- Co-develop English learning goals and appropriate support structures and programs for individual EAL/D students, in collaboration with classroom teachers and the EAL/D Specialist.
- Apply evidence-based EAL/D pedagogies, including Functional Grammar to develop students' language and literacy skills.
- Integrate ICT and learning technologies to support EAL/D students' engagement and learning.
- Contribute to curriculum documentation that reflects the Australian Curriculum and relevant EAL/D frameworks.




- Participate in school assessment and moderation activities to support consistent and comparable judgements of EAL/D student progress.
- Maintain a high level of student care and build positive, qualified relationships with EAL/D students and their families.
- Communicate effectively with classroom teachers, sub-school leaders, and parents regarding student progress and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with the EAL/D Specialist, classroom teachers, and relevant sub-school leadership.

About you

- EAL/D LEAP Level certification (essential)
- Current teacher registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (essential)
- Significant EAL/D, TESOL, or ELICOS teaching experience (essential)
- Demonstrated ability to teach EAL/D courses from Early Learning to Year 10 (essential)
- Strong understanding of EAL/D pedagogies and assessment using the ACARA Language and Literacy Levels (essential)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (essential)
- Current First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain prior to commencement (essential)
- Valid Working with Children Check (essential)
- Experience in Systemic Functional Linguistics (desirable)
- Familiarity with Canvas LMS or similar learning management system (desirable)
