About The Role

Our Industrial team delivers multidisciplinary engineering projects across Defence, fuel infrastructure, energy and industrial sectors. We work across the full project lifecycle, from concept studies and feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

Reporting to the Group Director - Industrial, the Engineering Manager will play a key role in shaping the future of our Industrial team. You'll provide technical leadership and engineering oversight across projects while influencing project delivery, technical standards and team capability. This is a newly created opportunity driven by continued growth across our Defence, fuel infrastructure and industrial project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide technical review and design direction across mechanical, hydraulic, structural, process and electrical aspects of projects.
- Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues raised by project teams and clients, turning ambiguity into clear, actionable direction rather than reactive firefighting.
- Review and sign off key technical deliverables (design reports, datasheets, HAZOP/HAZID actions, compliance and standards checks) at each design stage.
- Mentor and develop engineers across the team, building technical capability beyond the current small group of senior reviewers.
- Support proposals and scoping with senior technical input on approach, risk and resourcing.
- Represent Pitch Black technically in front of clients and stakeholders across the Defence and energy sectors.

About you: We're interested in speaking with experienced Engineering Managers, Technical Directors,



Lead or Principal Engineers from an engineering consultancy, EPCM or multidisciplinary project environments.

You'll likely bring:

- Degree-qualified engineer. Mechanical experience is highly regarded, however, we're open to candidates from other engineering disciplines with the technical breadth to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Chartered, RPEQ or equivalent professional status (or ability to obtain).
- Extensive experience delivering industrial, resources, energy, fuel or infrastructure projects with the technical breadth to review across disciplines rather than one narrow specialty.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic analysis, surge (transient) analysis and pipe stress analysis is highly regarded, though not essential.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence, with proven experience mentoring engineers and building technical capability within teams.
- Comfortable owning difficult conversations directly and proactively with clients and vendors and turning vague concerns into clear registers of action.
- Experience with Defence projects delivery frameworks is an advantage.
