Estimator / Project Coordinator – Landscaping & ConstructionCompany Description
Desert Flower Landscaping is an established Adelaide landscape design and construction company delivering high-quality residential and commercial landscaping projects.
We work across detailed landscape construction, paving, stonework, retaining, planting, irrigation, earthworks and outdoor living projects, with a strong focus on quality workmanship, thoughtful design and well-organised project delivery.
As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Estimator / Project Coordinator to join our team at our Tranmere office and help strengthen the systems behind our construction projects.
This is an important role within our growing construction team, working closely with our Project Managers, Designers, Project Coordinator and management team.
Role Description
This is a full-time, office-based role in Tranmere, SA , with a major focus on construction estimating, quantity take-offs and improving our Buildxact systems and processes .
The successful applicant will take landscape designs and construction documentation and turn them into accurate, detailed project estimates.
A major part of the role will also be helping DFL get more out of Buildxact — improving our estimating templates, take-off processes, costings and workflows, as well as helping us better utilise features such as time tracking, work journals and project scheduling .
This is not primarily a day-to-day construction scheduling role . The focus is on estimating, project preparation and creating strong systems that give our Project Managers and Supervisors accurate information before and during construction.
You will work alongside our existing Project Coordinator, who can help train you in DFL's current systems, processes and construction methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete accurate quantity take-offs from landscape plans, construction drawings and specifications
- Prepare detailed construction estimates and quotations using Buildxact
- Break projects down into labour, materials, machinery, subcontractors and other project costs
- Review drawings and identify missing information, potential construction issues or items requiring clarification before quoting
- Obtain and update pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
- Maintain and improve DFL's Buildxact estimating templates, recipes and cost database
- Help improve the way Buildxact is used throughout the business, including:
- Take-offs and estimating
- Material allowances
- Time tracking
- Work journals
- Project scheduling and job information
- Compare estimated allowances against actual project performance to help improve future quoting
- Work closely with Project Managers and Designers to confirm scope and construction methodology
- Assist with variations and additional works pricing
- Help ensure quotes are clear, consistent and accurately reflect the design intent
- Continually look for ways to make our estimating and construction systems simpler, faster and more accurate
The existing DFL role also places a robust emphasis on ownership, accuracy, communication and improving internal systems rather than simply completing isolated take-offs.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in estimating, quantity take-offs or construction costing
- Can confidently read and interpret construction plans, specifications and details
- Has strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
- Has experience with Buildxact ,
or similar estimating/construction software
- Is comfortable learning and improving software systems rather than simply using an existing template
- Understands construction sequencing, labour requirements and material quantities
- Can communicate clearly with Project Managers, Designers, suppliers and subcontractors
- Is organised and able to manage multiple estimates and deadlines
- Takes ownership of their work and is comfortable identifying problems or missing information before they become issues on site
Experience within landscaping, residential construction, civil construction, estimating or quantity surveying would be highly regarded. Knowledge of landscape construction, including paving, retaining walls, concrete, earthworks, irrigation, planting and drainage, would be an advantage but can also be developed with support from our team.
What We Can Offer
You will be joining a growing business where you can have a genuine impact on how our estimating and project systems are developed.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Work closely with an experienced landscape construction team
- Be trained by our current Project Coordinator on DFL's systems and processes
- Help shape and improve how we use Buildxact across the business
- Develop a strong understanding of landscape construction estimating
- Work alongside our Project Managers, Designers and construction team
- Grow with the role as DFL continues to expand
We are particularly interested in finding someone who enjoys building better systems , not just producing quotes.
- If you would like to know more about the position, please get in touch. We would be happy to answer any questions or organise a time for you to come into our Tranmere office, meet the team and discuss the role further.
