APPLY HERE The successful applicant will be committed to delivering high-quality, patient- and family-centred care. This includes maintaining clear communication with clinicians across the organisation and with external medical practitioners, ensuring timely treatment planning, effective patient handover and transfer of care. A high standard of clinical documentation is expected, including appropriate use of the electronic medical record, role-based messaging and departmental databases.

The Fellow will provide reliable and responsive on-call services, attending within thirty minutes of call or within a timeframe consistent with the needs of the specialty as approved by the facility.

The Fellow will contribute to an intellectual environment that supports high-quality medical research, applying evidence-based principles to clinical practice and participating in approved research and audit activities such as NSQIP and the ANZ Emergency Laparotomy Audit, while encouraging peers, registrars and resident medical officers to do likewise. They will organise and deliver education sessions, teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and provide "on the job" training during ward rounds, clinics and operating sessions. Supervision and mentorship of medical students, junior medical staff and trainees is a core expectation, including regular teaching in line with HETI guidelines and participation in staff appraisal.

Finally, the Fellow will demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement by supporting a "no blame" culture and actively engaging in clinical governance, risk management, audit, peer review, morbidity and mortality meetings, adverse event monitoring, root cause analysis, and clinical practice improvement projects aimed at enhancing service delivery and patient care.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Essential Requirements:

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2. Sound clinical knowledge in emergency General Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Sub-specialty focus in an area of general surgery (especially colorectal, oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, hernia) advantageous

3. Demonstrated commitment to the maintenance and further development of skills applicable to General Surgery, including involvement in further education and quality assurance activities.

4. A commitment to the provision of teaching including medical, nursing and allied health professional staff.

5. Demonstrated commitment to research.

Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership where required

Selection Criteria :

- Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the general surgery.
- Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty including GESA certification or sub-specialty training in general surgery.
- Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

a. Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.

b. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.

e. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
