About the role
Adelaide Biplanes is looking for two Flight Office All-Rounders to join our team at Aldinga Airfield. This is not a conventional reception job, café job or administration job. It is a genuine all-rounder role at the heart of a busy working airfield.
Our Flight Office is part reception desk, part kitchen, part operations hub and very much the centre of daily life at Adelaide Biplanes. On any given day you might welcome someone arriving for their very first flying lesson, make coffee for a regular pilot, answer an enquiry about an aerobatic flight, help organise the day’s bookings, bake a cake, wash dishes, restock the kitchen, clean a bathroom, sweep the hangar or simply lend a hand wherever it is needed.
We are looking for people who see what needs doing and get on with it.
You will need to be happy moving between very different tasks throughout the day and understand that every part of the job matters. Looking after an excited customer celebrating a special occasion is important. So is making sure the kitchen is spotless, the toilets are clean and the Flight Office is ready for the next day.
Some jobs are glamorous. Plenty are not. Everyone contributes.
This is a busy, physical and hands-on role. You will spend much of the day on your feet, change direction regularly and often juggle several things at once. In return, you will work in an environment that is genuinely different, meet an extraordinary variety of people and become part of experiences our customers often remember for the rest of their lives.
What you’ll be doing
- Welcoming students, pilots, customers and visitors to the airfield
- Answering phones and responding to flight enquiries
- Assisting with bookings and general Flight Office administration
- Looking after customers before and after their flights
- Making coffee and preparing simple food
- Baking cakes, biscuits and other homemade food
- Washing dishes,
restocking and keeping the kitchen organised
- Maintaining clean, welcoming customer areas
- Cleaning bathrooms
- Sweeping hangars and helping keep the airfield environment tidy
- Assisting pilots, instructors and other team members where required
- Generally noticing what needs doing and taking responsibility for getting it done
About you
We care far more about attitude, work ethic and character than having the perfect résumé. You are likely to fit well with us if you are:
- Warm, genuine and confident with people
- Practical, capable and hardworking
- Reliable and punctual
- Naturally organised and tidy
- Comfortable taking responsibility
- Able to work independently without needing constant direction
- Calm and friendly when things get busy
- Willing to learn
- Happy to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty
- Someone who takes pride in doing even the ordinary jobs properly
- A true team player who understands that no job is beneath anyone
Hospitality, barista, kitchen, reception or customer service experience would be practical, but it is not essential. The right person matters more to us than the perfect employment history. You do not need an aviation background. You do need good situational awareness, common sense and an appreciation that a working airfield is an environment where safety, communication and attention to detail matter.
About Adelaide Biplanes
Adelaide Biplanes has been part of the Aldinga Airfield community for more than 20 years. We are a flying school,
scenic and aerobatic flight operator and home to a unique mix of vintage and modern aircraft. But Adelaide Biplanes is more than aircraft and flying.
It is a place where students begin aviation careers, families come to watch aeroplanes, regulars stop in for coffee, visitors experience their first flight and pilots, instructors and customers come together as part of a genuine airfield community.
We care about doing things properly.
We value hard work, personal responsibility, genuine hospitality, high standards, good humour and people who care about the team around them. We want people who take ownership of their role and who are proud to contribute to the whole business, not just the part that appears in their .
The roster
We are recruiting two part-time team members to work an alternating: Week on / week off roster
Wednesday to Sunday inclusive
We are looking for people who can start as soon as possible.
Additional hours may also be available from time to time depending on operational requirements.
Why work with us?
You will not spend your day doing the same thing over and over again. You might be helping someone through the nerves of their first flying lesson in the morning, making lunch for a pilot at midday and hearing about someone’s unforgettable aerobatic flight that afternoon.
It can be busy. It can be physical. It can occasionally be messy.
But it is also interesting, satisfying, often great fun and genuinely rewarding.
If you are the kind of person who likes being useful, enjoys variety, takes pride in doing things well and wants to become a valued member of a team rather than simply fill a position, we would love to hear from you.
Please include a short introduction with your application telling us a little about yourself and why you think you would fit into the Adelaide Biplanes team.
