The food technologist will be accountable for all aspects of the consumer quality experience. This includes current product development (NPD), line extensions and flavour enhancements for our Twinings, Jarrah & Ovaltine brands. Working together with cross functional stakeholders and reporting to the Technical Manager, this role will manage NPD through the total supply chain, including selection of ingredients, identifying best formulations, product and cost optimisation, commissioning in factory and assessing consumer complaints.
Please Note: This role is fixed term for 12 Months (Parental Leave cover)
Key Responsibilities
- Leading NPD projects to ensure products are developed in a timely manner into commercial production
- Ensuring compliance with the Food Standard Code in our products
- Providing feedback and builds around NPD briefs including lab prototyping and internal testing of formulations
- Preparing artwork information with respect to regulatory and product information for NPD
- Co-ordinating with the Twinings & Co operations team & external manufacturing facilities to trial products for commercial production
- Co-ordinate activities associated with implementing new products including recommendations regarding production & technical issues
- Ensuring (with Quality Assurance) that systems and measures are in place to deliver high quality new products consistently
- Contacting suppliers for innovative ingredients, technology, trend, etc (and overseas NPD activity) and assess suitability/benefit of incorporation into current or new product
- Managing shelf-life testing for new product development
- Maintenance and review of raw material information in relation to labelling and trends
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Degree in Food Science & Technology (Honours) or similar with solid experience in the end- to end NPD process
- Strong knowledge of Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code
- Understanding of Financial Product Costing / Analysis
- Excellent communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated ability of working cross-functionally and readily shares professional knowledge and expertise
- Computer literacy skills with ability to utilise Microsoft inclusive of Excel, PowerPoint, MIS systems
