Forklift Operators – Steel Container Unpacks

Lytton, Brisbane | $35 per hour + Overtime Rogers Transport is seeking experienced Forklift Operators to join our steel and breakbulk operations team at our modern Lytton facility.

This hands-on position involves unpacking shipping containers, handling long and heavy steel products, and loading trailers using forklifts ranging from standard capacity through to 16 tonnes.

Pay and Conditions

- $35 per hour
- Overtime paid at applicable overtime rates

- Monday-to-Friday work, with additional hours as operationally required

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:
- Unpacking shipping containers containing steel products
- Operating forklifts ranging from standard capacity through to 16 tonnes
- Safely handling steel bundles, lengths, coils and other heavy freight
- Loading and unloading flat-top, extendable and other transport trailers
- Correctly positioning and distributing freight on trailers
- Securing loads using chains, ratchet dogs and straps
- Selecting and using suitable load-restraint equipment
- Inspecting chains, straps and other equipment before use
- Receiving, checking, staging and dispatching freight
- Completing load paperwork and recording freight movements
- Working closely with forklift operators, spotters and truck drivers
- Maintaining a safe, organised and efficient work area
- Assisting with general warehouse and yard duties when required

What We’re Looking For

- A current LF Forklift Licence
- Demonstrated forklift experience in a transport, steel, breakbulk or heavy-freight environment
- Experience operating heavy-capacity forklifts is highly regarded
- Experience handling long, awkward or heavy steel products
- Practical knowledge of loading trailers and load distribution




- Experience using chains, ratchet dogs and transport straps
- A sound understanding of load restraint and protected loading practices
- Confidence working around trucks, trailers and heavy mobile equipment
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions from spotters and supervisors
- Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
- Reliability, punctuality and a strong commitment to safety
- The physical ability to perform hands-on load-restraint and yard duties
- Availability to work reasonable overtime when required

Formal load-restraint training, dogging or rigging qualifications, and experience operating forklifts up to 16 tonnes will be highly regarded.
