Garbage Truck Driver Operator (KIAMA265)
Permanent full-time position

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced and safety-focused Garbage Truck Driver Operator to join Kiama Council’s Waste Services team.
In this hands-on role, you’ll help keep our community clean, safe and moving by delivering an essential service to residents across the Kiama Municipality. As a key representative of Council’s Waste Management service, the role requires a strong commitment to providing courteous, professional, and customer-focused service while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency and community engagement.
Key responsibilities in the role of Garbage Truck Driver Operator…
- Collect and transport residential waste safely and efficiently
- Operate waste collection trucks in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, Transport for NSW requirements, SafeWork NSW guidance and Council standards.
- Maintain the truck to a safe, clean and operational standard, helping present a positive image of Council’s Waste Management service
- Report any breakdowns or operational issues promptly to the Waste Collections Team Leader and Waste Operations Coordinator.
- Provide relief support across other waste management collection vehicles as required.
- Carry out other duties within your skills, competencies and training as directed.

- Permanent full-time role, with a monthly RDO
- Commencing annual salary from $72,924 to $80,399 (salary is dependent on qualifications, skills and experience)
- Annual performance-based progression chance to earn up to $88,640

What you'll bring to the role... You’ll need a class HR Drivers licence along with excellent communication, customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- It would be expected that you have a minimum of two years side loader waste collection truck driving experience
- Experience driving various heavy vehicles requiring a HR Driver’s Licence
- The ability to work with minimal supervision.
While not essential, any of the following would be beneficial:
- Knowledge of the truck’s operations and limitations during operation
- Knowledge of the Kiama municipality
- Experience in the operation of front-end loaders
- Experience in the operation of excavators.
