About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to lead maintenance and repairs across our heavy vehicle fleet, civil earthmoving fleet and remote power generation assets.

You will play a critical role in supporting workshop operations, preventative maintenance schedules, and breakdown recovery across Maningrida and surrounding homelands.

Key Responsibilities:

- Deliver mechanical services, fault-finding, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy vehicles, and civil plant and equipment (CAT Graders, Loaders, Tip Trucks, ITs, Drum Rollers, Excavators)



and other civil earthmoving machinery and heavy diesel generators.

- Work alongside and support trade assistants, apprentices, and local Indigenous staff, building capability through hands-on coaching and guidance.

- Manage a balance of planned preventative maintenance and urgent reactive breakdown repairs with high autonomy.

- Respond to breakdowns within Maningrida and surrounding IPA.

- Ensure all work complies with relevant standards, safety requirements, and manufacturer specifications.

- Utilise workshop systems to track work orders, parts inventory, and job progress.

- Foster respectful, culturally appropriate relationships with community members and operational staff.

About You

- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Mobile Plant Technology, or equivalent Australian recognised trade certificate.

- Proven hands-on experience maintaining and repairing CAT machinery, civil earthmoving equipment, and diesel generators.

- Strong and practical diagnostic abilities in hydraulic and electrical repairs.

- Ability to problem-solve, adapt, and work safely in remote or resource-limited environments.

- A positive attitude and genuine willingness to support and mentor apprentices and local workers.

- Respect for Aboriginal culture and the ability to work collaboratively in a culturally appropriate way.

- Current valid NT driver licence. Heavy Rigid, Light Rigid, Multi Combination, tow truck, forklift,



air-conditioning, diesel fitting, roadworthy inspection or service truck experience or authorisations are highly regarded where relevant to the role.

- Ability and willingness to travel to remote Homelands or outstations to support servicing, repairs and breakdown work as required.

- Ability to obtain and maintain required employment clearances, including National Police Clearance, OCHRE Card and any other role-specific checks required by BHAC.
