Joint Conservation crew member and farmhand role

Greenville Landscaping & Environmental is seeking expressions of interest from motivated applicants for a dual-purpose role combining conservation land management field work with practical farmhand duties. This casual position is offered with full-time loading and would suit someone who enjoys varied outdoor work, is physically capable, and is keen to contribute to meaningful environmental and agricultural outcomes.

Our conservation management work covers more than 1,000 hectares of covenanted conservation land — privately owned land protected in perpetuity for environmental benefit. Most sites are located west of Melbourne, ranging from grasslands on the slopes of the You Yangs, to herb-rich forest at Morrisons, Grey Box grassy woodlands at Parwan within the Parwan Gorge Conservation Precinct, and a biolink at Glenmore that supports the movement of native flora and fauna between the Brisbane Ranges and Werribee Gorge. We also manage conservation sites in East Gippsland and the Mallee on the Murray River, which require periodic work trips away from home.

Primary conservation management duties include:

- Applying herbicide using spray rigs and backpack sprayers.
- Assisting with ecological burns.
- Planting and maintaining revegetated areas.
- Identifying native and introduced flora and fauna.
- Using chainsaws, brush cutters, and other field equipment safely.
- Undertaking hand weeding and targeted weed control.
- Supporting pest animal control activities.
- Assisting with sheep husbandry and crash grazing programs.
- Maintaining fences, tracks, and access areas.
- Travelling to management sites, including week-long trips to remote sites several times each year.





The farming component of the role supports the management of approximately 400 hectares of grazing farmland. Our livestock includes several hundred sheep and a small herd of cattle. Applicants with animal husbandry experience are encouraged to apply; however, we also welcome applicants who are enthusiastic, reliable, and willing to learn these skills on the job.

Primary farmhand duties include:

- Inspecting livestock and reporting any health or welfare concerns.
- Maintaining water troughs and livestock infrastructure.
- Repairing and maintaining fencing.
- Moving and herding livestock as required.
- Assisting with sheep husbandry tasks, including crutching, marking, foot trimming, drenching, and vaccinating.
- Assisting with cattle husbandry tasks.

The role is physically active and wide-ranging, with work undertaken across different landscapes and in changing weather conditions. It is well suited to someone who is practical, safety-conscious, and comfortable working outdoors as part of a small team. The successful applicant will be highly motivated, reliable, and passionate about the natural environment. They will be receptive to coaching, willing to follow direction, and interested in developing practical skills across conservation, ecology, land management, and farm operations.

Essential skills and requirements:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or practical experience.




- A willingness and ability to undertake physical outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to follow direction and work effectively under supervision.
- Ability to work safely, collaboratively, and productively in small teams, and at times independently.
- Good practical judgement and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify workplace risks and manage them in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Punctual, reliable, well presented, and professional in conduct.

Desirable skills and certificates:

- Knowledge of herbicides, including appropriate application methods and safe use.
- Current manual driver’s licence.
- Agricultural Chemical Users Permit (ACUP).
- First Aid Level 2 certification.
- Chainsaw users certificate.
- Strong plant identification skills and the ability to quickly learn new species.
- Experience working or volunteering in conservation or land management.
- Experience safely handling chainsaws, brush cutters, and other power tools.
- Plant survey experience.
- Livestock management experience.
