About the role

Oaks Aged Care Facility is seeking a Kitchenhand/Cook to join our dedicated culinary team. This is a part-time position based in Mount Gambier, SA. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring our residents receive nutritious, appetising and high-quality meals prepared to the highest standards.

Your work will directly contribute to the wellbeing and satisfaction of our aged care community, supporting their health and quality of life through excellent food preparation and kitchen management.

What you'll be doing

- Preparing and cooking meals according to approved recipes and dietary requirements for residents, including specialised diets and texture-modified foods

- Assisting with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning of fresh produce and ingredients

- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen, including equipment, work surfaces and storage areas

- Following food safety and sanitation protocols to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

- Managing stock rotation and assisting with inventory management to minimise waste

- Operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, cookers, grills and food preparation machines

- Working collaboratively with the kitchen team and wider aged care staff to support meal service times

- Supporting meal presentation and plating to ensure food is delivered to residents in an appealing manner

- Reporting any equipment faults or maintenance issues promptly

What we're looking for

- Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate III in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) or equivalent cooking experience are an advantage

- Experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably in aged care, healthcare or institutional food service

- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene practices and HACCP principles

- Ability to follow recipes and cooking instructions accurately and consistently





- Understanding of special dietary requirements and the ability to prepare texture-modified meals

- Good physical fitness and ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, including standing for extended periods

- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills

- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- A genuine passion for providing quality meals and caring for residents

- Current Food Safety Supervisor certification or willingness to obtain it would be advantageous
