Location: Melbourne-based; on-site workshop. Flexible arrangements considered (contract, permanent, or intermediate arrangements). Occasional travel to client sites as required.
About us: We are a small, specialist group delivering a brand-new technology in the carbon sector. You'll be supported by a team with 20+ years of experience to guide and help drive successful outcomes.
Role overview: As a Mechanical Detail Draftsperson, you will produce detail design and documentation for large industrial equipment, with a strong emphasis on heavy machining and fabrication. The project involves taking 3D inventor models and design documentation and producing detail drawings in readiness for manufacture, fabrication, machining etc., to support fabrication in our workshop and with external partners.
Key responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D detail drawings using Autodesk Inventor (3D modelling and detailing).
- Specify and document material requirements, tolerances, surface finishes, and fabrication sequences.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, fabrication shops, and procurement to maintain schedule and budget.
- Perform design reviews, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacture/assembly assessments.
- Support hot processing equipment concepts and related safety/compliance considerations.
- Maintain accurate BOMs, assemblies, and change-control records; manage CAD data and documentation.
What you'll bring (essential):
- 5+ years of mechanical design/drafting experience in heavy machining and large-scale fabrication.
- Robust understanding of welding details and machining specifications; AS 1554.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D modelling and detailing).
- Ability to read and interpret complex Models and translate designs to details drawings.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, hardworking, and able to thrive in a small, focused team.
Nice to have:
- Experience in the process pipe work and P&ID; detail generation.
- Prior exposure to projects with multidisciplinary teams and tight timelines.
Employment type: We're open to contract, or intermediate arrangements. The right candidate will have clarity on the work type and durantion up front.
