We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our the Fortis Steel team in Pakenham, VIC. As a full-time role, this job allows you to be responsible for the smooth operations of the machine and equipments we use in our day to day operations. You will be responsible in supporting the company's core operations in the structural steel fabrication and installation industry. This role requires technical expertise in mechanical engineering, hands-on proficiency with structural steel fabrication tools and machinery, and a strong commitment to quality and safety standards.

Core Duties and Position Responsibilities:

- Fault Diagnosis and maintain Welding machines: Inspects MIG, TIG, and arc welding machines to locate the source of mechanical or electrical failures. Check welders to ensure blades and parts are replaced or repaired in time.

- Maintenance of Steel Cutting Bandsaws, Steel Laser Cutting Machines and Punch Machine: The equipments used by us needs to be checked and maintained to ensure smooth operation of our structural steel fabrication work. Periodic checks and monitoring the condition of these equipments is top priority and your technical knowledge will be used for this role.

- Maintenance of Paint Machine: Check the paint machine used to spray paint the steel and maintain it to avoid blockage and issues.

- Maintenance of overhead crane and forklifts: Make sure the overhead cranes and forklifts used in our factory is well maintained and in good condition and maintain the records of their condition.

- Disassembly and Repair: Takes apart mechanical assemblies, wire feeds, torches, and cooling systems using hand and power tools to fix or swap out broken parts.

- Component Replacement: Installs new valves, regulators, cables, switches, or drive rolls to restore proper function.

- Preventative Maintenance: Cleans internal components, checks gas and fluid lines,



and performs routine checkups to stop future breakdowns.

- Testing and Calibration: Runs tests on repaired units to verify stable voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow, and overall performance output.

- Safety Compliance: Ensures all repaired equipment adheres to electrical and workplace safety rules before returning it to active service.

- Documentation: Keeps logs of repaired parts, maintenance schedules, and testing results

- Custom-built heavy-duty workbenches: Collaborate and interpret design specifications and develop precise technical drawings for custom-built heavy-duty workbenches and industrial workstations suitable for structural steel business.

- Operate and maintain advanced fabrication equipment: This including CNC machinery, folding presses, cutting tools, and welding systems to manufacture structural steel components to exact tolerances.

- Mechanical systems and modular workbench: Assist in the assembly, alignment, and installation of mechanical systems and modular workbench units both within the manufacturing facility.

- Record Keeping and fault diagnosis of workshop equipment: Conduct performance, structural integrity, and load-bearing tests on fabricated units to ensure alignment with engineering and safety standards. Record, evaluate, and report test data and inspection outcomes, highlighting any variances or compliance issues. Contribute to the ongoing maintenance, calibration, and fault diagnosis of workshop equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.





- Estimate and monitor material and tooling requirements: Ensure there is stock of material for project execution, maintaining accurate job costing and stock usage records in coordination with procurement teams.

- Provide technical support during on-site deliveries and installations, ensuring correct assembly, stability, and functional compliance on-site when structural steel is installed. Perform quality assurance inspections throughout the production lifecycle, verifying dimensional accuracy, fabrication quality, and finishing standards.

- Uphold all health, safety, and environmental policies during manufacturing, handling, and installation processes, contributing to a safe and compliant workplace.

What we're looking for:

- Strong technical skills and knowledge of Mechanical Engineering. To organise and supervise inspections and maintenance of our equipments and tools.

- Diploma in Engineering or a qualification in the engineering field to assist with our structural steel business.

- A technical work experience in this field will be add on benefit.
