Full time The Opportunity:
Capricorn Metals is seeking a motivated and capable Mining Engineer to join our growing Western Australian gold operation. Reporting directly to the Mine Manager, this role provides a unique opportunity to work within a flat management structure where decisions are made quickly, accountability is high, and individuals are provided with direct access to experienced operational leaders. The successful candidate will receive one-on-one coaching and mentorship while gaining exposure across mine planning, contractor management, operational execution, project development, and production optimisation.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer looking to accelerate their development toward Senior Mining Engineer, Alternate Quarry Manager, and future operational leadership positions.
Working closely with Geology, Survey, Processing, and our mining contractor teams, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining outcomes while supporting the ongoing growth of a long-life Western Australian gold operation.
Key Responsibilities include:
The Mining Engineer is responsible for managing the interface between mine planning and operational execution to ensure production objectives are achieved safely and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include
- Delivering accurate and practical short and medium-term mine plans.
- Working closely with operational teams to ensure plans are effectively executed in the field.
- Monitoring production performance and identifying opportunities to improve productivity, mining efficiency, and operating costs.
- Supporting the management of our open pit mining contractor to achieve production, development and cost targets.
- Reviewing production trends, analysing variances, and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Assisting with the review and verification of monthly mining contractor claims.
- Developing and maintaining dig plans that consider pit design, geotechnical requirements,
environmental obligations, and operational constraints.
- Providing technical support to active mining operations and operational improvement initiatives.
- Supporting delivery of mine development projects, infrastructure works, and production activities.
- Participating in budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning processes.
- Maintaining compliance with the site Safety and Health Management System and supporting the management of Principal Mining Hazards.
- Building strong working relationships across Processing, Operations, Geology, Survey, and contractor teams.
About You: You are a proactive and solutions-focused Mining Engineer who enjoys working in a dynamic operational environment. You are equally comfortable undertaking technical mine planning work and engaging directly with supervisors, operators, and contractors in the field.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum two years’ experience in open pit metals, hard rock, or open cut coal mining.
- Exposure to contractor mining operations and production monitoring.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience using mine planning and scheduling software, such as Datamine, Deswick, Surpac, or equivalent mining software packages.
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience in open pit hard rock mining, preferably gold mining.
- Quarry Managers Certificate of Competency or demonstrated progression towards obtaining certification.
- Experience in contractor performance management and cost control.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
