The Wonarah Phosphate Project represents a landmark greenfields mining development and will become the Northern Territory's first phosphate mine. This significant investment in the region presents a rare opportunity to join during the establishment phase of a new mining operation with long-term growth ambitions. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY An exciting opportunity exists for a Mine Geologist to join the Technical Services team and support the development of Avenira's emerging phosphate operation. Reporting to the Senior Geologist, you will contribute to grade control, geological modelling, sampling programs, pit mapping and ore control activities while working closely with mining, processing and logistics teams.
Operating within a start-up environment, you'll help establish geological systems and processes while gaining broad exposure across mine geology, grade control, geotechnical monitoring and production support activities.
ROSTER AND LOCATION
Working on a FIFO roster, you'll join a collaborative team during a pivotal stage of project development. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution while supporting the establishment of a long-life mining operation.
Avenira welcomes applications from across Australia, with preferred FIFO points of hire including Darwin, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Townsville, Mt Isa and Cairns.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support grade control, ore mark-up and geological data management activities
- Conduct pit mapping, blast hole sampling and QAQC programs
- Maintain and update short-term grade control models
- Assist with ore tracking, stockpile management and blending activities
- Support geotechnical inspections, monitoring and hazard reporting
- Collaborate with mining, processing and logistics teams to optimise ore delivery outcomes
- Contribute to production, grade control and continuous improvement initiatives
ABOUT YOU
- Tertiary qualifications in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline
- 2-5 years' experience within open-cut mining operations
- Experience in grade control, sampling and QAQC activities
- Exposure to geological modelling and mine production environments
- Experience with Micromine Origin, Surpac, ArcGIS, QGIS or similar software will be well regarded
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a collaborative team environment
- A proactive approach and willingness to contribute within a developing mining operation
