Canberra | Federal Government ICT
PALAS Consulting is recruiting Network Engineers and Systems Administrators for contract engagements with our Federal Government clients in Canberra. These are hands-on infrastructure roles inside large, security-conscious agencies across the Australian Government. Apply against the role that fits you and we will contact you to discuss the engagement, the environment and your fit.
Network Engineer
Working alongside the client's network architects, you will turn approved designs into working infrastructure. The work spans enterprise routing, switching, firewalls and load balancing, and the environment expects a platform engineering approach: configuration under version control, automated deployment and testing, and documentation. An engineer who will challenge a design when the build reveals a problem is more valuable here than one who builds exactly what the drawing says.
About you:
- Five or more years in enterprise network engineering, preferably in an Australian Government or Defence setting.
- Hands-on depth in at least one major vendor platform (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet or comparable).
- Automation and infrastructure-as-code practice, for example Ansible, Terraform or Python, applied to network platforms.
- A current professional-level vendor certification (CCNP or equivalent) is an advantage.
Systems Administrator
You will maintain Windows and Linux server environments inside a secure Federal Government network: Active Directory, virtualisation, patching, backup, monitoring and escalated user support. Patching and hardening are measured against the Essential Eight and, as agencies transition, ASD's new Essentials series, and changes follow a formal ITIL process. Positions span a range of seniority levels,
so we welcome applications from administrators at different stages of their careers.
About you:
- Three or more years administering Windows Server and Active Directory, with Linux administration an advantage.
- Experience with VMware or Hyper-V, enterprise backup tools and monitoring platforms.
- Familiarity with the Essential Eight maturity model, the ISM and ASD's incoming Essentials series as they apply to server administration.
- An ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent operational experience.
Eligibility
- Australian citizenship is mandatory.
- Current AGSVA security clearance.
- Based in Canberra, or willing to work on-site in Canberra for the majority of each working week.
Location and Working Arrangements
These roles are Canberra-based. On-site attendance is the norm, with any hybrid arrangement at the discretion of the client agency and not guarunteed. Contracts are an initial term with extension options, engaged through PALAS Consulting at competitive daily rates.
How to Apply
Apply through this advertisement with a current CV and note which role you are applying for. We will contact suitable applicants directly to discuss the engagement, rates and timing.
