Position Descriptor

Amata Anangu School is one of the largest schools in the Anangu Lands Partnership, situated in the far northwest corner of South Australia. The Amata community is in the western Musgrave Ranges, west of the Stuart Highway, it is situated approximately 500 kilometres south west of Alice Springs and just south of the Northern Territory border.

The Amata community consists of about 350 people. It has a general store, a clinic and a world famous art centre.

Amata Anangu School is a bilingual school where Pitjantjatjara and English are valued in teaching and learning. Anangu and non-Anangu staff work together across two languages and cultures.

The school's work is grounded in the Anangu Bilingual Education Policy, which recognises the importance of culture, language, family, Country and community in education. Tjukurpa/Wapar, Ngura, Walytjapii, Wangka and Kurunpa provide an important foundation for teaching and learning at Amata.

At Amata, Anangu and non-Anangu staff work side by side with shared purpose and responsibility. The Pitjantjatjara concepts of malpa and tjungu reflect the collaborative relationships that underpin our work across the school. Secondary teachers are expected to work respectfully and effectively within this bilingual, bicultural context.

Teaching and learning are guided by the South Australian Curriculum for public education.

Learning

Expeditions provide a framework for engaging students in meaningful and purposeful learning. Through this approach, students investigate significant questions, apply knowledge, solve problems, communicate their thinking and develop increasing ownership of their learning.

- Country Zone Allowance $11,000 approx/ year
- Locality Allowance $16,000 approx/ year
- Fully Subsidised Accommodation including all utilities (accommodation may be shared)
- Payment of Removal and relocation costs
- Travel and accomodation costs for medical and dental treatment
- Four paid travel days per term
- Remission and reduction of Higher Education Loan Program Debts for teachers in very remote areas
