About Defence Health
Defence Health is a not-for-profit, purpose-driven private health insurer supporting the health and wellbeing of the Defence community. Since 1953, Defence Health has remained focused on protecting the health of those who protect Australia, operating for members rather than shareholders and reinvesting in the community it serves.
Our culture is values-led, member-focused and built on trust, excellence, community, ownership and putting members first. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where people are supported to grow, contribute and make a meaningful difference.
Defence Health is a place where we are all encouraged to excel and where we strive to be a high-performing organisation by continuously setting a better standard. We show up, stick together, solve it, and see it through.
Our promise to our own people is the same as our promise to members; we look after our own

What if leadership wasn’t a program and culture wasn’t something owned by the People team?
What if leadership showed up in how decisions were made?
How teams worked together?
How change was led?
How people experienced work every day?
At Defence Health, we’re building for the future.
We’re rethinking how we organise around work, how teams operate across boundaries, how leaders create clarity and confidence, how decisions happen closer to the work and what it takes to build an organisation that can adapt as quickly as the world around it.
We’re looking for an OD & Leadership Partner to help turn that ambition into something people can actually experience.
This is broad, practical OD work.
You’ll work alongside leaders and teams on the organisational challenges that don’t fit neatly into one box.
That could mean
- Shaping how leadership is understood and experienced across Defence Health
- Designing and facilitating leadership development that connects directly to real work
- Helping leadership teams strengthen how they operate, make decisions and work together
- Partnering on team effectiveness and organisational development interventions
- Evolving our approaches to talent and succession
- Helping shape practical ways of working across the organisation
- Supporting leaders to navigate and sustain change
- Facilitating the conversations that help teams get unstuck
- Translating OD thinking into tools, practices and experiences people can actually use.
Some days you’ll need to zoom right out and think about the organisation as a system. Other days you’ll be in the room facilitating the workshop, working through a team issue, shaping a leader conversation or building the resource that makes the idea real.
About you
We’re looking for someone who can comfortably move between “what does the organisation need from us?” and “great, what are we going to do about it?”
Someone who can challenge without disappearing into theory
Someone who can think strategically and still get stuff done.
Someone who wants to work alongside the people doing the work, rather than designing for them from the sidelines.
What you’ll bring
- You’ve spent time in organisational development, leadership development, organisation effectiveness, change or a similar space and you know how to turn complex organisational challenges into practical action.
- You’re energised by helping leaders and teams work better. That might mean strengthening leadership capability, improving team effectiveness, shaping ways of working, supporting organisation design or helping people navigate change.
- You’re a confident facilitator, curious consultant and trusted partner to leaders and stakeholders. You know how to ask the questions that get beneath the surface, challenge constructively and help people move from conversation to action.
- You can take broad OD concepts and turn them into practical tools, conversations, interventions and experiences that leaders and teams can actually use — not theory for theory’s sake. You’re just as happy zooming out to think about the organisation as a system as you are rolling up your sleeves to facilitate a workshop, work through a team issue, build a resource or help make change stick.
Sound like the kind of gig that gets you excited? Positive. We should probably talk.
