Outdoor Horticulture Facilitator

$60 per hour + super | 12-Month Casual Opportunity | Sydney

Location: Sydney Park

Hours: Shifts are generally around 4 hours, with work potentially available approximately once per week during peak operational periods.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Outdoor Horticulture Facilitator to support Sydney City Farm in delivering engaging, hands-on programs for corporate teams, volunteers and community groups at Sydney Park.

This is a flexible, needs-based casual opportunity, ideal for horticulture professionals, community educators, environmental educators, gardeners or experienced outdoor facilitators who enjoy sharing their knowledge in a practical setting.

About the Role

Working under the direction of the City Farm Learning Facilitator, you will help deliver hands-on farm and horticulture programs, ensuring participants have a safe, enjoyable and educational experience.

Your responsibilities will include

- Welcoming groups and providing an introduction to Sydney City Farm

- Delivering site inductions, safety briefings and participant training

- Leading walks and tours through Sydney Park

- Preparing and setting up activities and materials

- Facilitating practical horticulture and urban agriculture activities

- Supervising participants during hands-on farm activities

- Supporting activities including planting, weeding, watering and sheet mulching

- Working within the propagation nursery

- Assisting with produce harvesting

- Educating participants about composting, seed saving, beneficial insects and sustainable gardening

- Encouraging participation and creating an inclusive learning setting

- Packing down and cleaning up following programs





- Supporting program evaluation and continuous improvement

You will work both autonomously and as part of a small, hands-on team.

The role is primarily outdoors and requires the ability to work in varying weather conditions, stand for extended periods and undertake some manual handling.

About You

We are looking for someone with practical horticultural knowledge who is confident engaging with and educating a diverse range of participants.

To be successful, you will have:

- Knowledge and practical experience in horticulture, urban agriculture, organic gardening and/or community gardens

- Demonstrated experience in teaching, facilitating, educating or working with volunteers in an outdoor environment

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- An understanding of accessible and inclusive programming and diverse learning needs
- The ability to identify health and safety risks and confidently conduct site inductions and safety briefings
- A genuine interest in sustainable gardening, urban agriculture and community engagement
- The ability to work independently and contribute positively to a small team
- A valuable level of physical fitness and the ability to undertake outdoor and manual activities

Pre-Employment Checks The successful candidate will be required to provide:

- Current Police Check, or willingness to obtain one

- Two employment references
