Who are we?
Since 1985, we've been helping Australians and New Zealanders create homes they love. Today, with more than 70 stores across Australia and New Zealand, we’re known for stylish, affordable and built-to-last furniture and homewares.
We are more than a retailer - we're a growing, dynamic retail business driven by creativity, customer focus and a passion for making beautiful living accessible to everyone. But what truly sets us apart isn’t just our product range - it’s our people and the way we work together.
Description
What is the Role?
We’re looking for a People & Culture Advisor to join our team, reporting to the People & Culture Manager ANZ, and playing a key role in supporting our people, our leaders and our continued growth across Australia and New Zealand.
You’ll be the person managers turn to for practical advice and support across performance, conduct, grievances and workplace investigations.
You’ll be involved across the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment through to performance, development and exits, while also contributing to engagement initiatives and broader P&C; projects.
A key part of the role will be making People & Culture easier and better for our leaders and teams - building practical tools, improving processes and using people data to support better decisions.
In short, you’ll have your hands in a bit of everything - with plenty of opportunity to make things better.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing practical HR advice and coaching to managers and employees across Australia and Recent Zealand.
- Supporting key employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance, employee changes and exit.
- Building practical manager toolkits, HR templates and frameworks.
- Guiding managers through difficult conversations, grievances, disciplinary processes and dispute resolution.
- Managing routine and moderately complex workplace investigations from start to finish.
- Supporting our annual performance, pay review and development cycles.
- Contributing to P&C; projects, engagement initiatives and employee communications.
- Identifying opportunities to improve our P&C; systems, processes and ways of working.
Building strong relationships across the business and be a trusted, accessible P&C; Advisor. Why you’ll love working with us
When you choose to work at Early Settler, you’ll be empowered to think differently, contribute ideas, and be part of a team that supports and inspires each other. Our values shape how we support each other, serve our customers and grow as a business - we believe “how” we work is just as important as “what” we achieve.
In addition, you will have:
- Amazing employee discounts - Enjoy amazing employee discounts across our fabulous products. Fair warning: you may find yourself wanting to redecorate every room!
- A role that grows as you do - Build your experience, develop your skills and grow with a business that has an ambitious future
- Make your mark - Have a genuine opportunity to influence how our People & Culture function evolves, bring your ideas to life and help shape better ways of working.
Skills and Experiences
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for an experienced HR Advisor or HR Generalist who is confident working across both the advisory and operational sides of HR. This is a role with real variety - one day you're coaching a manager through a tough conversation, the next you're shaping a new process or working on an exciting P&C; project. You'll work across the full employee lifecycle, partner with leaders across Australia and New Zealand, and have genuine autonomy to bring your ideas to life.
Skills And Experience
- 3-5 years' experience in an HR Advisor, HR Generalist or similar role, with demonstrated experience across employee relations and the broader employee lifecycle
- Strong working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards and the National Employment Standards, together with working knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
- Previous experience in a retail, multi-site or similarly fast-paced operational environment is highly desirable.
- Highly organised and able to work independently in a lean, fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
- Ability to build trusted relationships and credibility with stakeholders at all levels
- Comfortable working in an environment where systems and processes are still evolving and where you can help improve ways of working
