Are you an experienced legal practitioner looking to apply your expertise across a diverse range of complex matters?
Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is seeking a highly capable Principal Legal Officer to join its Legal Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to provide expert legal advice and support across a broad portfolio of matters that contribute to the delivery of critical services and infrastructure for Queensland communities
As a trusted adviser, you will work with stakeholders across all levels of the department, providing practical, accurate and outcome-focused legal advice on complex and sensitive issues. You will play a key role in protecting the department's interests, managing legal risk and supporting informed decision-making.
In The Principal Legal Officer Role, You Will
- Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of complex matters including statutory interpretation, workplace law, industrial relations, administrative law, litigation and work health and safety matters.
- Draft, negotiate and settle a variety of legal documents including agreements, deeds, submissions, notices, delegations, affidavits and witness statements.
- Represent the department in matters before tribunals and commissions, including QIRC, QCAT and the Queensland Human Rights Commission.
- Manage external legal service providers to ensure high-quality legal outcomes for the department.
- Build solid relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders to deliver responsive and practical legal services.
- Support the Directors (Legal) in delivering strategic and effective legal services across the organisation.
You Will Bring
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, commercial and outcome-focused legal advice.
- Strong legal drafting skills and experience preparing a wide range of legal documents.
- Sound judgement and the ability to analyse complex legal issues and identify practical solutions.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
Mandatory Requirements
- Hold a Degree in Law.
- Be admitted, or eligible to be admitted, as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
- Be willing to undergo a criminal history check prior to appointment.
