Production Engineer – Continuous Improvement & Manufacturing Systems
Permanent Position • $100,000 - $110,000 Annual Profit Share Bonus
Build Better Manufacturing Systems. Solve Real Problems. Make a Visible Impact.
Join Great Plains Industries Australia (GPIA), the Australian team behind FLOMEC flow measurement and control products used around the world across fuel handling, chemical processing, food and beverage manufacturing, mining, agriculture and industrial applications.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving practical problems, improving manufacturing systems, and seeing their ideas implemented on the factory floor.
As a growing Australian manufacturer backed by a respected global brand, we're looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to help improve manufacturing performance, eliminate defects, introduce new products into production, and drive continuous improvement across our operations.
If you're naturally curious, enjoy understanding how things work, and take pride in making systems better, this could be the perfect next step in your engineering career.
About Us
At GPIA, we're part of an international organisation recognised for precision engineering, product innovation, and reliability.
Our Australian team designs, manufactures, calibrates and supports industry-leading flow measurement products that are sold throughout Australia and internationally.
We pride ourselves on maintaining a collaborative, supportive culture where ideas are welcomed, initiative is encouraged, and engineers are trusted to take ownership of meaningful projects.
Unlike many larger organisations where engineers work on a small piece of a process, this role offers broad exposure across manufacturing, quality, process improvement, product industrialisation, automation and engineering systems.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager and working closely with Engineering and Production teams, this is primarily a technical role focused on improving manufacturing performance through engineering excellence.
You will investigate production and quality challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, design practical solutions, and implement changes that improve efficiency, quality, throughput and predictability.
You will also play an important role in introducing new products into production by developing the tooling, equipment, test methods and manufacturing processes required to achieve stable, repeatable production.
This is not a role focused on production scheduling or administration. It is a role for someone who enjoys engineering, problem solving,
continuous improvement and delivering measurable results.
What You'll Be Doing
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste whilst increasing quality and throughput.
- Investigate defects and recurring production issues using structured root-cause analysis techniques.
- Lead improvement projects from concept through to implementation and verification.
Process Engineering
- Design and improve manufacturing work cells, tooling, fixtures and production equipment to improve the safety, efficiency, and repeatability of production processes.
- Develop and improve product testing and calibration systems using NI Labview software.
- Create and maintain manufacturing processes, work instructions and technical documentation.
New Product Introduction
- Develop manufacturing methods, tooling, test processes and supporting documentation for the transition of new products from design into manufacturing.
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure smooth and efficient product launches.
Quality & Problem Solving
- Assist with corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support inspection, testing, quality control activities, and investigations into manufacturing and quality issues
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of our Quality Management System.
Technical Support
- Work closely with Production Team Leaders and operators to solve technical challenges.
- Provide practical engineering support to manufacturing operations.
- Assist with automation, test systems and manufacturing process development projects.
Delegated Site Leadership
- Act as Assembly site lead under delegated authority during periods when the Manufacturing Manager is on leave.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Degree qualified Engineer (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electromechanical, Automation or similar).
- Strong problem-solving, organisational and analytical skills.
- Experience using 3D CAD software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.
- A practical mindset, attention to detail and willingness to get involved on the factory floor.
Highly Regarded
- Experience in a manufacturing, production or engineering environment.
- Solid soft skills; teamwork/collaboration skills, conflict resolution skills, clear communication, able to be assertive when required.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience with automated testing, instrumentation or data acquisition systems.
- Labview experience will be highly valued, however ability and desire to learn will also be accepted.
- Experience with product industrialisation or New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Exposure to ISO9001 quality systems.
- Experience designing tooling, fixtures, test equipment or manufacturing systems.
Don't worry if you don't tick every box. We're looking for engineers with strong fundamentals, curiosity, initiative and a desire to learn.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Be part of a growing Australian manufacturer with a respected global brand.
- Work on diverse engineering projects that deliver visible business impact.
- Gain exposure to manufacturing, quality, automation, product industrialisation and continuous improvement.
- Direct access to decision-makers and genuine ownership of projects.
- Competitive salary plus annual company profit-sharing bonus.
- Annual profit-sharing bonus has historically delivered meaningful additional earnings for employees.
- Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Free on-site parking.
- Friendly and supportive team setting.
- Stable, long-term career opportunity located in the Sutherland Shire.
Who Will Thrive in This Role?
This role suits an engineer who enjoys improving systems rather than simply maintaining them.
You'll be naturally curious, practical, and motivated by solving problems at their root cause. You'll enjoy taking ownership of projects, working closely with production teams, and seeing the direct impact of your work on quality, efficiency and customer outcomes.
Whether you're currently working as a Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Industrial Engineer or Mechatronics Engineer, this role offers an opportunity to broaden your experience and accelerate your professional growth.
