About the role
Working closely with the Directors and the heritage team, you will take responsibility for a portfolio of significant heritage projects across Sydney and NSW. This is a senior, hands-on role for an architect with strong experience in heritage conservation, restoration and adaptive reuse, confident managing projects from inception through documentation, construction and completion.
Key responsibilities
- Managing heritage conservation, restoration and adaptive reuse projects across all project stages
- Undertaking detailed site inspections, condition assessments and investigations of existing and historic building fabric
- Developing appropriate conservation methodologies and practical repair solutions
- Preparing architectural drawings, specifications, schedules of conservation works and other technical documentation
- Managing tender and construction-stage services, including contract administration
- Reviewing contractor methodologies, samples, shop drawings and site works
- Coordinating clients, heritage consultants, structural engineers, services consultants, contractors and approval authorities
- Managing project programmes, budgets, deliverables and overall project performance
- Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior architects and graduates
- Contributing to the ongoing technical standards, project systems and day-to-day operation of the practice
About you
- Registration as an Architect in Australia, or eligibility for registration
- Approximately 5+ years of professional architectural experience
- Demonstrated experience in heritage conservation, restoration and adaptive reuse
- Practical knowledge of traditional building materials and conservation techniques, ideally including sandstone and masonry conservation, lime mortars, roofing, leadwork, timber and historic building fabric
- Experience preparing conservation documentation, specifications and schedules of works
- Robust construction-stage and contract administration experience
- Confidence undertaking site inspections and resolving technical issues during construction
- A sound understanding of NSW heritage legislation, conservation principles and recognised best-practice approaches
- Strong client, consultant and contractor coordination skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
