The Strategic Science team in Science and Insights Division is seeking expressions of interest for an EO7 Project Officer role supporting delivery of the Nature Strategy. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile body of work that is shaping the evidence, monitoring, evaluation and research foundations for long-term nature outcomes across NSW.

The role sits within a broader program of work focused on connecting science, data, policy and implementation to enable better decisions and adaptive management.

This role would suit someone who:

- Can connect ideas, people and evidence across disciplines
- Enjoys translating complex information into practical insights and advice
- Is motivated by making science useful, usable and used in decision-making

You will have opportunities to contribute to work such as:
- Evidence and decision-support frameworks
- Research planning and coordination
- Monitoring, evaluation and reporting approaches
- Strategic advice for senior decision-makers
- Coordination across multiple Nature Strategy workstreams and partners

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly and complex, interconnected work is the norm. This role requires someone who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, maintaining momentum through uncertainty and helping shape emerging approaches. Strong project management, coordination and documentation skills will be critical to success.

About the Team - Strategic Policy Science & Engagement

Strategic Policy Science & Engagement sits within the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), which works to protect the state’s environment and heritage while driving a sustainable future for NSW.

Working at the intersection of science, policy and delivery, Science & Insights collaborates across government, academia, industry and communities to identify priority issues and deliver practical, high-impact solutions.

The division brings together six specialist branches spanning conservation and restoration, climate and atmospheric science, environmental protection, remote sensing and landscape science, science impact and assessment, and water, wetlands and coastal science.

Together, these teams provide the evidence, expertise and insights needed to understand NSW’s environment, manage risks and drive sustainable outcomes.

The division’s work is focused on building a strong evidence base, advancing innovation in how data is gathered and used, and translating complex scientific information into clear, actionable insights and advice. Through scientific rigour, partnerships and knowledge sharing, Science & Insights plays a critical role in protecting, restoring and strengthening the resilience of NSW’s setting for future generations.
