Who we are

The NSW Early Learning Commission (Commission), established as the independent regulator for early childhood education and care (ECEC) in New South Wales on 1 December 2025, is responsible for regulating more than 6,000 ECEC services across the state.

Our role is to ensure services meet high standards of safety, quality, and compliance through ongoing assessment, monitoring and enforcement.

The Commission places children at the centre of all decision-making, working to ensure they are safe, respected, and supported to thrive in high-quality early learning environments that promote their development, wellbeing, and lifelong learning. It also drives continuous improvement across the sector through evidence-informed regulation and reform to strengthen community confidence in ECEC services.

About the Team

The Project Officer role sits within the Risk Team, which leads and coordinates the development and implementation of strategic projects and operational initiatives to support effective risk based and best practice regulation of NSW early childhood education and care services with a robust emphasis on risk management and performance optimisation.

About the role

As a Project Officer, you play a hands-on role working across a variety of projects and initiatives, providing the coordination, research, analysis and administrative support needed to ensure priorities are progressing and quality outcomes are delivered.

Your responsibilities will include

- Providing secretariat and governance support, including coordinating meetings, preparing papers, and minutes
- Undertaking research and data analysis to identify operational issues, emerging trends and sector risk, and prepare high-quality reports and correspondence
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate activities and respond to enquiries
- Coordinating project activities and deliverables, monitoring progress and supporting implementation to ensure timely effective delivery

- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A resourceful, solution-focused mindset and willingness to take initiative
- Confidence using Microsoft Office suites and working with data, reports and documentation

- Effective organisation and time management skills, with the ability to keep priorities on track and meet deadlines
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team culture.

- Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
