Quality & Metrology Support Technician

Intercast & Forge is Australia’s largest independent iron foundry, supplying high-quality castings to the rail, automotive and general engineering industries.
We are seeking a practical and detail-focused Quality & Metrology Support Technician to join our Quality team at Wingfield.
This is a varied, hands-on role providing versatile support across metrology, dimensional inspection, product testing, production quality and quality documentation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Quality Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting dimensional inspections on production castings, tooling, patterns, OTS and PPAP samples and recertification components
- Operating and assisting with the programming of the CMM to verify products against drawings, CAD models, GD&T; requirements and critical features
- Using hand and bench measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges and surface plates
- Preparing samples and completing hardness testing, visual inspections, X-ray testing and concentricity checks
- Conducting first-off, layered and finished-product inspections across production and fettling areas
- Identifying and classifying casting defects, evaluating rejects and escalating significant quality concerns and adverse trends
- Maintaining equipment and gauge registers and ensuring calibration and verification activities are completed when due
- Completing inspection records, reject reports, Quality Assurance Certificates, dispatch audits and other quality documentation
Essential Requirements To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
- Experience in quality inspection, metrology or a similar manufacturing quality role
- Demonstrated foundry experience
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Knowledge of GD&T; and datum structures
- Experience using hand and bench measuring equipment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify defects, trends, outliers and non-conformances
- Sound problem-solving skills
- Accurate record-keeping and documentation skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to follow inspection plans, work instructions and quality procedures
- The ability to safely work within an active heavy industrial environment
- Full and unrestricted Right to Work in Australia
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in any of the following will be highly regarded:
- CMM programming or editing inspection routines
- PC-DMIS metrology software
- Cast-iron or metal manufacturing
- Hardness testing of manufactured components
- X-ray inspection equipment
- Statistical Process Control
- Process capability studies, including Cp and Cpk
- Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility studies
- PPAP and OTS inspection processes
- First-off and layered process inspections
- Identification and classification of casting defects
- Quality assurance documentation and certification
Pre-Employment Requirements The successful applicant will be required to complete:
- Pre-Employment Medical Assessment
- Drug and Alcohol Screening conducted as part of the medical
- Right to Work Verification
